CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — The Marines are inviting the public to help celebrate their 233rd birthday with a ceremony at Camp Lejeune.
The ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m. Thursday on Liversedge Field at the Onslow County base. The event will feature a cake-cutting ceremony and procession of Marine Corps uniforms dating from 1775 to today.
Generals, commanding officers and sergeants major from the Lejeune-based commands are scheduled to attend the ceremony.
The Continental Congress approved a resolution calling for two battalions of Continental Marines on November 10, 1775.
