So we set off at 4 AM Friday morning, 17th July to get a clean unhindered run (as the motorway M20 was "stacked" with trucks that were hindered by migrants at the Dover crossing to the continent). In any event we were diverted by the police onto a smaller alternate road (A20) for the last 14 mile run in to the show. When they saw our convoy they were undecided which way to send us, M20 and stack or A20 diversion as we were heavy trucks. However Suitably determined and hogging the appropriate lane with all turn signals in the convoy flashing and boots not relinquishing the pedals in the slightest after only the slightest hesitation and we were waved onwards with (some appreciated) enthusiasm. We set up camp (7-30 A.M.) There was an excellent turnout of vehicles, and the stalls were selling much and many desired parts. There are 3 vehicle run out convoys , Wednesday, Thursday, Friday evening. As usual the weather for the Reo Thunder Ride out for Friday was forecast Heavy rain and gales starting at 6-31 pm! and finishing around 8-30 pm. So yet again the convoy was cancelled as was last years. Knowing the weather status one would have thought the organizers would have let the Heavy and WW11 Korean and Vietnam era vehicles go on the Wednesday when the weather was great. The locals were waiting for this event and were disappointed again (as) they were "treated" (!) to a convoy of landrovers....which can be observed on any day of the week on the streets or in the local shopping car parks. After two days of viewing and shopping we plumbed to do our own "ride out convoy" round the local town, as no organizer could be found or or any information gleaned either. The convoy was a great success with people lining the streets and (with children and grand dads) waving and showing great appreciation. pictures will follow in another post when they are all accumulated. Rain forecast for Sunday, heavy and prolonged, so we "upped" at....2-30 AM! had a smooth traffic free run home and were packed away and breakfasting by 7-30 AM.
