Just picked up another Deuce today. Kaiser Jeep M35A2 WO/W, Hardtop and Artic Heater. It didn't have bedsides in the pics but they along with a good cargo cover were waiting for me in the bed to put onto my first truck. The GL rep slaved it off and away we went. The batteries were dead and I think 1 permanently is as it still isn't leveling out with it's charge. I don't know but I may have fried the alternator while trying to let the truck charge it's own batteries. I pulled over and installed my good ones about 40 miles south at a truck stop. I topped up the diesel and made it to the house. The good, the Artic Heater works and the hard top is in decent shape, the motor runs stronger than my current deuce. The bad, alternator may be toast and there's a spot rusted through on the driver's side of the cab at the bottom left of the door. There's not a hole through the floor board but just below the door. The J pipe is also rusted through so it's a little louder than usual. I bought this truck to fix up and sell, any ideas on what the Artic Heater is worth? I've thought about pulling it and installing it on my truck but it looks like quite a job.

Just the hardtop and the shift boots. I didn't notice a battery warmer kit or extra insulation when I changed the batteries today. I need to get the number's over to CARNAC so he can tell me where this truck came from before it made it to Robins. The heater is awesome but it may be too much for SW GA.

Running a truck with a bad/dead battery will indeed, burnout the alternator. If the batteries can't take a charge, the voltage regulator continues to increase the output, until it burns itself out. Same thing happens with no batteries connected also(and sometimes with a bad connection too).

Anytime you jump start an unknown, dead truck, you need to watch the volt meter and see if it is in the green. If it is in the red, you cannot continue, without risking damage to the alternator.

Alternator has survived the abuse. I cranked it up a few minutes ago, disconnected the negative for a few seconds and all systems stayed powered up and the voltmeter was in the green. I think the dead battery just worked the alternator too hard and it went into thermal protection mode. Seems to be working fine for now. That arctic heater is making it hard to decide which truck to sell, it's pretty neat.

Anytime the batts go dead on our MVs...we hook up the life support (slave cable) and let it charge for awhile. If not...the alternator/generator is overloaded....can't get by with that many times...sometimes not even once:driver:
