Had weep hole drip develop in the LMTV waterpump so changed it out Saturday morning.
Purchased a Cat remanufactured pump and proceeded with the install. Cat pumps come with all of the boss type tubing fittings as well as plugs installed so things went fairly well.
Pumped antifreeze back in from the radiator drain cock to avoid any air pockets and began to re install the alternator.
In the process or wrestling with the stud and nut under the alternator bracket, noticed antifreeze collecting around the smaller of the two tubing fittings (the 90 degree fitting) on top of the pump. Wasn't leaking from the actual tubing to fitting interface but from around the middle of the fitting. This fitting has a system to allow the upper half of the fitting to be rotated or 'clocked' so it can line up with tubing coming in on the horizontal plane.
Removed the generator and enough pieces to access the fitting and discovered that the Cat remanufacturer had left out the 'O' ring that seals the pivoting part of the fitting. Went ahead and removed the pump and checked all other ports and fittings for completeness and didn't find any other problems. They just didn't install the ring on that fitting.
This cost several hours of time and a lot of frustration.
I would hope this was an unusual problem, but considering the difficulty of getting to the water pump, it might be advisable to break out all fittings and check them for 'O' rings if you are installing a remanufactured pump.
