I need to decide which turbo to put back on my LDS. I just had new valve guides installed and had the heads cleaned up for my M52A2. The engine had a "D" turbo on it but I also have a spare LDS with the older waste gate turbo on it.
I removed the waste gate turbo and had new bearings intalled, it was very tight, it's now like new. If I decide to use the "D" I'll have to take it to the local turbo shop as well. I have all the piece parts to install either one, the installations are quit different.
I've read as many of the past posts as I could find and have not found the definitive information as to why they moved away from the waste gate design.
Does anyone have any information, suggestions and or personal experience as to performance of each and which one YOU would use? I do understand it's personal preference, so I'm looking for good input to help the decision.
I do think it would cool to run the older turbo, but if it's known for being a POS, I'll opt for the "D".
