Why fuel gauge may not work

Wanted to check the calibration of the fuel gauge and removed the sending unit.
Found something very interesting, the FLOAT SINKS!!!
I measured the buoyancy of the float and its less than required to float it in diesel or biodiesel.

An older sending unit only needed 15 grams to to register, the new one 46 grams, it's too heavy!


I have images, but don't see right off the bat how to attach them, some other time perhaps....

The sender in mine goo filled tank was gooped up and would not move at all. Two other two were rusted too bad to work.
As for the pic, right below here is a attach files box, it opens another window. I think have not tried it yet.

This vehicle does not have a sending unit in it.........
