Winch question

I now own two m35a2 winches, in searching for a replacement top plate for one I now notice the bolt holes on the top for the plate are different sizes between the two.What's up with that, different manufacturer's or different time periods.The bolts in the black one are 15/16 and the green one are 3/4.Does this mean the top plates are different too?

They probably stripped and someone tapped them out to the next size bigger.

Yes, that is correct

3/4 head size= 1/2" bolt. 15/16 head size= 5/8" bolt. That's the general rule but you will see an odd bolt size/wrench size combo every now and then.

As stated above, It could be that they stripped them out and went up a size.

Maybe just an optical illusion but is the spacing between the bolt holes different? Larger spacing on the one on the left? Maybe just the angle of the picture.

The spacing appears to be the same. I think they drilled out the old holes on the green winch and put in some sort of insert, maybe the holes were boogered up.Every other winch I have seen has the same size bolt holes as my old winch.(the bigger ones)

OD Iron use to make the top plates. Does he not do that any more?? I got 2 sets from him a few years ago. They were new unpainted steel. I think they they were the frist thing he stated selling.?.

pm me if you need top plates i can more then likely get at least 3 of them if not make some they are easy for me to make... 20 buck plus cost of shiping i think i can get one in a flat rate box to make it cheap...
