So after nearly 10 months of restoring the brake system, Making seats and back boards in the back,
Wiring up the lights, and fitting bits and bobs ( Like a re manufactured a fuel tank to original specifications, And re-building the in tank fuel pump!,) to complete what was an unfinished restoration, From Poland,
And with the help of tinygpw and tinygpw11, who moved all the vehicles around to enable me to get the truck out for a test drive...Came the moment to start it up.
Full choke, Switched on, Pulled the starter lever..I mean WOW! it fired up and ran FIRST pull of the lever.
With guidence squeezed it out passed the Packard (We had pushed to a new parking spot (disabled and waiting for a carburetor rebuild)),
Tried to turn the steering to clear thins, Coudnt, the pain in my right shoulder was just too horrible, But seeing me struggle tiny gpw11 jumped into the passenger side and helped pull the steering wheel to enable about 4 shunts.
Lots of growling and shuddering! (Oh what the heck is that??), Anyway pulled up outside the barn, did a walk round, Got back in, Hi range, apply the power pedal,, Crikey..THAT THING TOOK OFF!!,
The gears shifted perfectly, the brakes were fine, the engine Smooth as silk, and so powerful (And, pleasingly loud and almost scary as it took off!).
Drove round the barns a couple of times, tiny gpw22 riding with me commented, " You are really happy", You are grinning like a cheshire cat!".
And so I was..It was an absolute buzz,
The kid said, " Woah, I can't believe it went as quick as that",
I am so happy I kid you not, All the work and pain (S), WELL worth it.
WE can't wait to take it for a longer drive. Perhaps in the snow...HEAVY snow is forecast for tomorrow,
I can't wait..the jeep, (Of many years), the OT65 FUG, and now the GMC M135 are all ready and waiting to 'play!'.
