Im planning on doing headgaskets, ip, injectors, and front main seal.
That way i will do one tear down and major repair, and hopefully be good for a while.

A local shop wants 800 to refurbish the pump. Not going to happen! Anyone have a good reliable source for one? I seen eBay has a few, but what one do I need for a 85 1009? I'm not nearly on the mechanical level as most here. Should have spent more time around the motor pool!

The problem you may have is getting a pump that you purchase, installed. Kinda like buying a steak at the grocery store and taking it to Longhorns and having is cooked. If there is a problem with the pump, who pays the labor to remove it for service. If the installer breaks it, who pays to replace it? I'd think long and hard before having parts you buy, installed by others.

the pumps do take a little mechanical skill to replace but it can be done by just about anyone price of pump = my local shop can do it from 400 to 600 for just the labor now for finding a pumpthat might be difficult unless there is a scrap yard that buys military trucks close by

I ordered a new IP for my M1009 from Oregon Fuel Injection today, model DB2-4544.
Rebuilt diesel fuel injector pump, injectors, and turbo for Chevy GM diesel Duramax, 6.6 L, 6.5 L & 6.2 L
This will be the second time I have purchased from them. The first IP went in another M1009 and it is still working well.
I agree with Recovery 4x4. Ask the repair shop what their policy is with you supplying parts for repairs. Some will and some will not allow customers to provide parts.

I got two ip's off blown engine's i bought on craigslist.
They were both recent replacements and very clean compared to the one in my truck.
Spent 100 for one engine, and got all the other parts that were left on it too
Great way to save money and end up with lots of extra parts that many people still need.
By shop do you mean mechanic?? If so you are going to have to spend lots, if its in your shop it is just more time that you will have to put in.

You certainly have the know how, if you can read the forums, you can read a manual.
Its all just nuts and bolts, at least thats what i tell myself.
Understand the time part though, especially if this is your only vehicle.

I too wrestled with where to buy one for my M1009. I did alot of research before buying. The pumps are made by Standyne so I looked for a Standyne authorized dealer. The ones on ebay are tempting because of the price, but the reviews on those guys are not so good. Look up the company name on the BBB website and you will see what I mean.
I went with Mid West Fuel Injection (dieselstore.com) and it has been 2-years now and no complaints. They are a little more expensive than some I found, but I think it was worth it.
Someone else mentioned Oregon Fuel Injection above and they were also on my list to try. The only reason I didn't try them was because MWFI was in closer proximity to me shipping wise.
You want to get the Heavy Duty Pump.

ok. i have a question. i have an 86 M1009 that is not getting fuel for some reason. you can fill up her fuel filter and all and she will run but after that, she loses all power and will not run at all. would yall think this would result in a bad injector pump? or do yall think its just a clogged fuel tank??

Try Santa Rosa Diesel. Authorized Standyne dealer and rebuild station.Around 600$ to rebuild your stock pump with 1 year warranty. They are located in Santa Rosa ,CA. Better than a Ebay unknown who built it pump.Been to their shop- very clean and all techs trained by Standyne. Good luck.They wanted 1100$ installed to do a 6.2 pump.

try replacing the shutoff solenoid on top of the pump first. that is usally what goes first.

Not many items to check in a CUCV fuel system.
Starting from the back.
1 - filter sock in the tank
2 - lift pump on the engine
3 - fuel filter
4 - injector pump
5 - fuel cutoff on the IP
6 - fuse for the IP cutoff
7 - injectors
8 - rubber hoses along the way
The tech manuals do have a step-by-step troubleshooting for the fuel system.
First thing I would do is check the fuel delivery to the fuel filter to see if the lift pump is working.
You may be sucking air thru a bad rubber hose.
Starting from the back.

best way i have found is pull the hose that comes form the fuel pump on the side of the block going to the fuel filter and spin the engine over and see if fuel sprays out of it and not just trickles or slowly runs out it should have a good solid stream

i normally dont have the TM in my back pocked and i didnt even know what it said, i was just giving my experience working on trucks and equipment.
