Hello. I wanted to ask and also put out there that I have found several differences in starters on these 6.2's. There is a Manual Trans one, auto Trans one, short nose cone as well as long nose cone. There is open cones and closed cones.
I have a good starter from a 6.5 auto and I tried it on a cucv 6.2, all it wanted to do was tear teeth off the flex plate. So I pulled it and looked at the one I had the nose cone break on, and they are different. I have included pictures.
What I don't understand is if all the 6.2 blocks are the same why does the starter matter ? If I have a manual trans and change it to auto the starter should work eith way right ? Obviously not the case here, the 6.2 I have was on a SM465, I put a 4L80 in it and tried to start it and it snapped the nose cone right off. I used the bracket as well. Just wondering if anyone cna shead some light on this ?
