You need to drop the transmission to do the job. Pull the clutch and flywheel, then you can easily replace the seal. Just did this on a friends truck in around 6 hours.

I suppose one could do the clutch, and rear main seal in six hours but, ya have to add time for beer. It is a job that should not be undertaken with out lots of beer and friends to go get some more. We are fortunate to live accross the street from the beer store. We also have all the stuff you need to do the job safely.

Oh, it took two days if you include the beer, bbq and pool time. I edited that time out and only used the actual work time.

FYI, that search results link is temporary and will only be good for a short amount of time. I don't know how long the window is, but certainly less than a week.
Thanks for the heads-up Clinto. I had no idea there was a window of time involved. Hopefully he'll research before the opportunity expires. My basic premise was to assist him in the use of the search feature.

That link is now dead.

I know your intent was to help.

We do have a way to post search results(Patracy shared this once), but honestly, people need to learn to search for themselves. We do not need 100s of threads with search results cluttering up the forums when they can simply search and read what already exists.

Think about the fact that rear main seals have been posted and well documented about 50 times now, in 8 years. Then add 100 threads with 50 links to those threads. Now, what will we do in the next 8 years? Can anyone understand how this is NOT helpful(in keeping the forum topics easy to find and read)?

In the Internet World, there is such thing as Forum Etiquette. Members need to actually THINK, and TRY to use the forum, BEFORE posting.

People need to put some thought into their thread titles too. This greatly improves how useful a search is.

Also, in the Internet World, people really need to be able to spell and use proper grammar. It is a WRITTEN form of communication. People need to be able to understand what your thinking/asking, easily. Think of this issue like listening to someone with an accent you are not familiar with. Do you sit there and try to figure out what they are saying, or just try to get away and ignore them and move on?
