Headboard build - Bobbed deuce

I decided I want to add off road lights to my deuce but I didnt want to mount them on my roof. Thought the best way was to build a headboard with light mounts built in. I didnt plan this out I am just building it on the fly.
I am using 1 1/2 X 2" steel tubing. It will be removable, I will be using the existing post holes. The wiring for the lights will be run on the inside of the tubing. I also want to use it to secure my oxygen and acetylene tanks and other tools. The pictures are what I did today but I am still deciding what to do next. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe

Looks good and good idea!

Are you going to be putting the cover back on or just leaving it off permanently?

Just as a thought, if you are going to be securing Oxy/Acet cyls to this, you might want to brace it pretty good. Those cylinders are not light and the motion of the Deuce is not like a Caddie...

Attached are pictures of how I did my lights. You can see more in my build thread (link in signature).

Both approaches look good.

To the OP, suggest building in a hinge capability if you ever encounter a low overhead situation (or if if you need your lights to be seen from space!).

Regarding post #2, what is that wild antenna and does the bar shake a lot while driving?

The antenna is an over the air HDTV antenna for tailgating. I wouldn't drive with it up and I actually sent that one back because my rabbit ears performed better.

Ultimately I would like to fabricate / weld my setup to the bed, between the cab and bed. This way I will still be able to use my canopy. The top of the lights will be the same height as the canopy and they will follow the exact profile/curve of the canopy.

It does not shake in the current configuration.

Here it is. It is heavier than I thought it would be so ended up spot welding it in (semi removable). I am still waiting for the 4 lights to mount. I will add chains, tie downs, and hooks as I need them. Cost in materials not including lights was approx. $275.00 and about 3-4 hours to build it. Definately a fun project and with the lights mounted it's going to make my bobbed deuce even better looking.
