Changing Fluids Tomorrow

Changing my fluids tomorrow. Oil and filter for the engine and trans.

For the trans, is there anything else I should do while I'm in there? Everything is running ok for a 27 years old truck, but I figured enough folks have poked around these automatics to know what needs attention and what doesn't.

By the way, Autozone has Delvac 1300 on sale @ $12.99 for a gallon jug. Just sayin.

Double check the filter on the tranny. Sometimes they like to drop off.

if you have time the addition of a drain plug is always a good idea.

Changed and the fluids and filters. Pulled the transmission pan and changed the filter, nothing to note in the pan. Found a washer type heavy magnet in the bottom of the pan and mine already had a drain plug, with magnet on tip. All things considered, there was not a lot of metal in the pan or filter, so I think I am good to go for a while with the trans.

It did take 6 qts of fluid instead of the called for 4, was that normal?

My bambalace tranny has the drain plug. Was topping off transfer case and got frustrated. Went and got another gallon sprayer and this time I filled it with ATF. Chopped the spray valve off the end of the wand. Now a half dozen pumps and I have free flowing ATF to fill the transfer case.

Add a 24oz bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix. It has friction enhancers in it and helps prevent trans slip after servicing older transmissions. they sometimes slip with new oil. I would also add a deep pan, More oil helps lower trans temps.

I was under the impression that CUCV's already had a deep pan. If not, whats the difference between a stock pan, a CUCV one and the deepest.
