M923 Rear Exhaust Modification

I hated to lose my stack but for what I am doing with the truck it had to be done. I know there are several ways to go about it; this is just how I did it.

I like the simplicity of the modification and how it can be done with a minimum of fuss or expensive parts. There are limitations to having the piping in with tire spray; I know it will have a shortened lifespan. I figure by the time it rots out the truck will have earned some money and I will have a 5" stainless steel system built at a heavy truck muffler shop. For now this works. I keep thinking it would be both cool and effective to weld some 1/4 by 1" bar stock along the length of the pipe from the back of the cab to the first mud guard. Make some heat sink fins. Oh well. Either way we are on the road and hope to be profitable. Your mileage may vary.

It takes years for exhaust like that to rot I have to believe it would last for many years. You can paint it with header coat paint it comes in a spray paint can you paint it on cold and then fire it up get the exhaust real hot and it cures the paint onto the metal it's inexpensive I think it would definetly help if you are concerned about looks or rust. I cut a 6 inch section out of my exhaust top to reduce height and had it welded back together I used the flat black header coat after and once it burned in you can't tell it was modified.

That's really nice work, Ken. That is exactly how I was going to do it but was going to use a bullet style high flow muffler. I think I will take your suggestion and increase to 5" pipe right under the cab.

What do you think of turning the exhaust down so it doesn't blow right into the Prius stopped next to you at the stop light?

I think if you were to spend anytime in traffic or the city the gesture would be appreciated. Put a chrome down-turn tip on it, that always makes the truck go faster.

Great job, how about shooting the pipe with some wood stove pipe high resistant paint, they may help especially from the bed back!
