Ok guys, Long time member/lurker finally posting instead of reading.
As of last week I purchased 5 M923A2 5 ton trucks from Ft Huachuca here in Arizona where I am currently stationed. I am not a mechanic by any means and my motor pool has already shipped to Ft Hood with 11th Sigs advanced movement team. I do have a mechanic from 111th MI that can look at the trucks but not until Friday. Problem is all the trucks must be removed by friday. Here is the low down, All 5 trucks required new batteries so we swapped the 4 battery system for dual Napa 7271 batteries in all the trucks already. After installing batteries 3 of the trucks start and run nicely, 1 we drove off the lot on Friday the other two are perplexing. Lets call the dually with locked brakes truck 1: Truck 1 has its rear brakes locked, it is odd because it pulled off the line just fine and I parked it away from the other trucks while we worked on battery swapping and when it was restarted to move it off base the rear wheels were locked up. I must admit this may be my fault as I assumed the brake system was lubed which it may not have been needless to say it locked up and will not unlock. I know I can cage the rear and drive it off using front brakes "9 mile ride home open desert roads and flat terrain 4 turns total" but I dont know how caging is done... Any help?
Truck 2: Started and ran fine, pulled off the line. Backed it up to another truck with starting issues and hooked up a borrowed tow bar to tow it out. After readying the trucks for towing tried to put the truck in gear and pull forward with no luck. Truck revs in reverse, revs up in neutral but does not rev up beyond idle now in forward gears motor just idles as if it were still in neutral when peddle is pressed to give it gas.
Trucks 3/4: Both turn over easily and sound normal, but will not start as if fuel is not making the cylinder. I very brief shot of ether while the engine is turning results in a very clean and effective start of the motor then it dies when the ether dissipates. This was only done once to prevent ether dependency. We tried priming the motor with the primer inside the engine bay to no avail. Any ideas. I would like to get some of them removed if possible prior to friday, I could call in a favor with the DOL and ask for a removal extension but I just want to get them off post ASAP. My mechanic cant answer these questions until Thursday night as he is currently at WLC till then. Any ideas guys? Also, I searched out and found a few related topics on here but nothing exactly matching other than break caging but the info was not broken down enough for a complete no nothing to understand as far as break caging. Thanks all
