Old girl put back on active duty

I saw your deuce driving down long street just past the gate onto base. I was one of the guys looking like a sack of s#@$ in kit on your right side. Just got done doing land nav for EIB when you drove by. Never seen a deuce on post still in action and didn't recognize your bumper ID so now I know why. I've thought of using mine cause we don't have an LMTV only a bunch of 1197s, but I'm sure if I drove her into the motor pool the gate guard would never let me out till I had a dispatch.

Never seen a deuce on post? What about the fire engine red one with the tan tops? lol wonder who would drive something like that around!

No tan top, but my crane truck is fire engine red. Seems the state Guard made a commitment to clean up a community park that was hit by torrential rain. My wife, the editor of the local newspaper, was friends with their commander. It was a strong enough storm to wash a railroad car that was used for a culvert down the gully and make a plug out of it. I got volunteered for that clean-up and spent two days cutting, pulling and standing the crane on end, pulling out buried steel. I wondered where the guard unit went as I worked alone for about 2 days. It was hot and mosquitos terrible. My wife got a real nice letter of thanks from the commander and I itched for about 4 days.

I LOVE THAT TRUCK! Please tell me its yours and I can take a closer look. Seeing it, is what got me back into the idea of purchasing a deuce. Anyways I was talking about any deuce still in the army and belonging to a unit. I had an officer come up to me and luckily ask me if the truck was a POV before he almost started chewing into my ass for no PPE, TC, or ground guide when backing up. I was like YEP its mine so I can do what ever. LOL almost don't want to repaint it cause of all the potential fun...almost.

It's mine! Fire Department painted it red, I got it from a GSA auction for cheap and drove it from JBLM, WA to FT Rucker, AL then to Bragg. Anyway I'm in 3 BCT.

That does happen sometimes in the Reserve's or Guard. We got sequestered long before anyone else. I've driven my truck to tow a trailer to Ft. Stewart 180 miles away. They did pay for the fuel, they obligated themselves for maintenance and repairs if needed and they didn't let anyone else touch my truck. No, it shouldn't happen but when the job needs to get done, it get's done. My M35 has also been towed to our training site due to lack of driver's. I did it with my M1089 FMTV Wrecker but it was easy as it was a "lift tow" meaning we picked the front end in the air. Same deal, I'll drive my truck!!!

The state has been REALLY tight with parts and maintenance to our equipment. The reason we used my MEP was because my unit is authorized 3, 3K generators but we only had one on hand. The other two were down for the count and the unit did not have the funds to have them repaired.

Did a big field operation and we had to break down the TOC on Sat evening SO DEUCE TO THE RESCUE! Only had one small LMTV and three 1097s before. Allowed us to do it two trips and one night. So I didn't have to come in today to finish.

Thanks for sharing. This story just shows how dedicated our Nation Guard Troops are to getting the job done. I always looked forward to working with Guard and Reserve Troops when I was in the active Army. This is exactly why.

Go check your fuel filters, JP-8 breaks loose a lot of stuff if you have been using diesel before the JP-8. It is a great fuel system cleaner

Sorry but POV, PPE, TC, Ground Guide? what are those?

And sorry for the slight OT, but what is the difference between the Reserves and the National Guard?

POV= personally owned vehicle, PPE= Personal Protection Equipment, TC=truck commander, Ground Guide=person who walks and directs the truck where to go for safety in tight or highly congested areas.

Here the ground guide is usually soldier 2. All service men both in the serving armed forces or in our National guard is trained and instructed in how to provide the proper signals both during day and night. So we are all able to serve in that capability . But I guess the ground guide might be the civic thing to using Soldier 2

PB it happens more than you may think. While in the marine infantry, it was easier to understand astrophysics then to get motor T support. On a number of occasions I would load my 1500 chevy pick-up with 1000 lbs of gear. The alternitive was to hump the 10 miles back to the barracks with all the gear. I think all branches have men and women that do what has to be done.

But using the duece would have been great, good job.

I had just done a full service on my deuce and MEP, including all filters and oil before going out to the field, But I was planning on doing another service in the near future.
