The pipeline trucks are really neat. Army Motors had a great article about them last year.

Before you strip parts I would see if someone would swap for a standard deuce because the 756 is getting hard to find.
I have no intention of raping this beast, but it is going to have to be a working, and camping, truck; so the extra winch added to the top of the headache rack will have to go. It is clearly a later add-on, and inadequately engineered, so it would just rip off if I every used it. The winch is not even connect to a drive shaft anyway, nor is there a provision for one.
It is usually a long search, especially for the trunion.

Nice! By extra winch on top, are you referring to the behind cab mounted 20K winch and headache rack? That belongs there. Enjoy the LD engine, I miss the one I had.

I don't think he has any intention to part this truck. The winch he wants to remove was added to the top of the headache rack. You can see it in pic 2. If he knows what a trunion is for one of these, he knows exactly what he has for a truck.
Actually, I have been an engineer for 40 years, but never came across the term 'trunion' until I started researching here about my new rig. The sad part is I know I have seen this trunion somewhere in my past, probably at a scrap yard. Now I know what to look for when I see one, so I am going to scrounge the scrap yards for one. If I cannot find it in 6 months, then I will have to order one machined.
When I was looking for a truck I was just looking for an M35a2 with certain features and had planned on building a small crane for it to handle the equipment that I plan to load onto its bed. I did not know about the crane on this truck until I went to look at it, and the owner showed me how it worked. I got so excited, I just bought the truck without inspecting it further, which was a bad idea, because I had a blowout on the way home at 65MPH. That was more excitement than I can handle in a lifetime.
