Thank you. Will review tonight.

I am on my way to register the truck with my County. Then, I will be off to my napa auto store for some other parts. :)

if you are going to get the truck inspected in texas, dont forget a license plate light to mount somewhere in the back. also check your horn, lights and e-brake, and wiper blades. sounds like you are on your way!!

That is for wiring. Mechanically, again going from memory:

New hose from vacuum pump to the vacuum control valve on the side of the IP.

New hose from the vacuum control valve to the modulator on the side of the transmission. There is metal tubing some of the way between the pump and the valve and some of the way between the valve and the modulator. Just because it is metal doesn't mean there isn't a crack there. Use them, but don't trust them until everything works right.

Verify the vacuum pump works.

Verify the vacuum control vavle works.

Verify the transmission modulator works.

Adjust the vacuum control valve for the shift points you want once it all is together and working.

Check the rubber in the harmonic balancer for cracks or missing chunks. Then watch the balancer while the engine is running to make sure there is no wobble. (I was under the engine a while messing with the starter and didn't even thing about looking at the balancer, sorry.)

While your belts are still there, it would be good insurance to get a complete new set and keep the old ones as spares. It will also let you under stand the torture that is changing the power steering belt so you know which tools to keep in the truck at all times.

You will find the other 30 or so things we didn't see wrong as you start to drive it and they introduce themselves.

Thanks for all the great information, guys.

I spent this afternoon getting the truck registered, new vacuum hoses, a new used tire for $35, and having to buy a bottle Jack. Not a cheap afternoon, but needed.

I am not looking forward to returning to the man who fixed my starter from the beginning. I will bet he will not be happy about my burning up the starter. ;)

Barrman and I have been telling people for years that you should plan on at least a $1000 above the purchase price to get a CUCV up and running without any BIG issue items.

I see you are quickly getting there.....

On a side note....was the wife happy that it at least runs now?

Tonight I changed the tire and installed a good used one.
I changed out the vacuum hoses.
started her up again and ran her in the parking lot. Couldn't get it going fast enough to get out of first. I did notice that there is a lot of play in the steering wheel linkage and that I couldn't get the 4x4 to shift into 4L. Could be user error. I'll have to look into that one.

I'll bring the starter over to Lewisville tomorrow and see how bad the damage is......

Off to bed...thanks again, guys....

Take it out on the road and blowout the cobwebs and the rest of the rats nest. Have a recovery plan in place. (been there done that) Just don't go any furture that you are willing to walk.

Steering could be an issue, the 4L can wait.

At least it started again and moves on its own.

I'll do that after I find some good tires. I don't like the idea of driving around on four 13 year old tires tires that have been sitting for for at least 10 years. ;)

Okay, I screwed something up tonight.

I picked up the truck late from the tire place and it was dark by the time I got home and I had the lights on. I decided to flip over to the black lights when I got to my neighborhood and my main lights went off.

Well, I could never get my main lights to come back on.

What could I have done? Blow a fuse?

Also, there are no interior lights on the dashboard. Is that standard or do I have another bulb burnt?

Did you remember to flip the "service" (right side) switch in the up postion?

Figured out my issue.

In the day light, where i could actually see, I learned that the Service switch actually has to be pulled out and the flipped up. You can't just try and flip it up without pulling it out.

I couldnt see that in the dark last night.

That being said, I took her on a 30 mile trip this afternoon to see how she runs and she did well. No major issues. Now that I have new tires, I will work on getting new shocks and replacing hoses, etc.

Oh, and I am definitely ready to get the electrical set up for the existing air conditioning. :)

Sounds like you need to pull the instrument cluster and do some cleaning. After looking at the GEN1 bulb, all the others may be burned out.
