Cold Weather Starting- Winterizing

It's been in the 30's here and I jumped in the M923a1 and tried to start it.....she didn't want to start! I was surprised because it always starts within the first couple cranks, I just replaced the batteries with two 1,700 CA, 1,400 CCA....

I sprayed some ether in it and it didn't like it but it started.....

What do you all usually do to winterize a truck? This is my first winter with a truck...my last truck I bought in April/May. Never had to worry about cold weather. This truck starts better than my last, I never have to try and start it twice until now.

1. Engine block or oil pan heater. 2. Dump the 15-40 motor oil for something thinner. This will help a lot. But she still will not like temps below 30 degrees......

I put a true four bank battery minder on mine that I keep plugged in all winter. I use it intermittently in the summer. I also installed a block heater (30 minute job). After two to three hours plugged in, it fires like it was summer. I also installed a winter cover over the grill. Mine will start at low temps without heat, but is typical. Sounds like coffee cans in there until it starts to warm up. The coldest I've started mine is -20F (ya, 20 below) - it was a piece of cake with the block heater but I was careful to let it warm up a long time before driving.

They use 4 6TL batteries for a reason, cold starting ! You do not have sufficient cranking amps for cold starting. Put a block heater in and plug it in at least two hours before you need it.

You are directly affecting the inefficiency of the site by posting redundant threads.

You said it didn't like it(ether). Please explain. I've never seen an engine not respond(properly) to using the cold start ether start system.

You must have the proper battery power available for cold starting.

Then you probably sprayed too much. All it needs is a little snort of ether for it to fire.
