Was at Ft. Sam this month. Houston PD was picking up 2 slantback HMMWVs that looked new. Did not get to look inside but they were driving them to Houston. Saw 30-40 older M998s that the PDs would not want. Probably worth $20,000 on civilian market. Gov. liq./DRMO is always a fun trip.

So, what do you know that maybe a few million other collectors, scrappers, DRMO workers, LE, surplus Buyers and a host of other agencies don't? I mean, you must have some reason to make this statement....

The exporter that I've been collecting equipment for told me this yesterday. Apparently someone decided that HMMWVs might be worth something to the public and they aren't making enough from scrap on them. Supposed to be a trial release of around 2000 units to see what kind of prices they bring. This may not come to pass, but if not, then no surprise.

That is all the info I have. I have nothing more specific, nor do I have a timeline. I do not however, have any reason to lie about this. Just telling you that my exporter told me that I am going to start receiving HMMWVs soon because GL is getting a greenlight on auctioning them.

I guess we'll see. May just be another failure to launch. Anyway, I've said my peace on this subject as it usually ends up getting nasty with people speculating and belittling each other.

Liability and not meeting FMSS codes.

In addition when this came up they were selling H1's. (cheap HMMWV's would not help sales)
AM General took a loss with a lot of H1s. there are a lot of H1s out there that have had more warranty work done than the buying price (from the dealer no less, not how much the dealer paid for the H1). back in 2004 I would go off roading each month with my dad in his 2001 H1. and the ball joints would get replaced each time afterwards because the dealer said they needed to be replaced. also the idler and pitman arms would get replaced every few months or so.

Ball joints aren't that weak. How many jumps were you doing.

A couple thousand more Humvees in the public's hands sounds good to me! I wonder if GL will cherry pick interesting models? It sure seems that if they want to get more than scrap prices, they should just sell all of them, except maybe armored models that might not be allowed. All soft models should be sold off to us.
