roders, ?are these your trucks or will you be selling them under the "marltrax" heading or does "marltrax" not exist any more?.They are lovely looking trucks and would be great to rally. You obviously have the contacts/experience and knowledge in sourcing these trucks and the UK is lacking in a good/reliable sensibly priced and fair "m" series parts/vehicle supplier.Its a real shame that marltrax got such a bad name within the whole military "m" series fraternity for price and very poor customer care as there was and is definately a gap and a need in the market. None of the militaria fairs cater for "m" series parts and needs. ? any thoughts rod?

Yes i heard alot of bad things about Marltrax and Litchfield specialist vehicles too, dont think they are around anymore as they were always to expensive and never kept there promises to customers. Had some good kit but always hard to contact. The trouble is mud sticks so if you get a bad name its hard to get rid of that reputation.

There is a gap in the UK market for M series stuff and it would be great to have a good sensiable priced reliable dealer here in the UK but there is a fantastic Belguim guy who supply's alot of people i know and hes got good prices.

Its seems bad news is the most popular, we should also speak up when we have something good to say. I have found some folk into mil. vehicles want everything at bargain prices and forget dealers are running a buisiness.
I have had many M series from Marltrax; M1008, M35a2,M62 multifuel etc. Always had great service and as a result came back to them. Would love that wrecker but have now got a Militant mk3, and my M1008!

even 109 vans have the provisions for a cargo cover
Here are a few pics from my father from his ASA unit in Korea during the early 60's. They used the cargo cover to disguise the radio trucks.

redscot thats good you got lucky because many years ago i bought a " U S ARMY" recon? gearbox and new/exchange clutch kit from them. The gearbox looked great with shiny bolts and red oxide paint but leaked oil like nothing else and it turned out the rear output flange was corroded and pitted the seal had no chance!. So at expense to me i had the flange sleeved and a new seal and the new /exchange clutch slipped terrible and had no clamping force, when it was returned for exchange i was told it was"nt the one they supplied as it showed signs of thousands of miles wear and i was trying it on- the man told me he was an engineer and knew about these things but luckily i run my own garage so aint daft. reluctantly it was swapped but after lots of hassle and expense to me.I always treat people as i expect to be treated and the one thing ive always been told in business is you will only sting people once and as you know its a small uk military world.Yeah your right maverick "rudi " in belgium is great, very fair and consistent with price and postage.hoping he"ll emigrate here soon. martin

Out of curiosity, what does it cost to put license plates on a M816 per year?

With fuel cost being double of US prices I'm surprised that there is such a strong following of all things military, especially US Military vehicles.

On low density/high value targets like wreckers and fuelers, the Army thought it was a good idea to be able to "camo" them to look like normal cargo trucks. A good theory, until you need to take the canvas on and off a few times to use the wrecker boom. It uses the normal cargo variant canvas/bows.
What is the normal cargo variant canvas?
I tried today and the cargo beds have the pockets 36 inch on center and the 816 has them on 33 inch centers. I was missing the reinforcement on the in side of the cover. There is also one extra pocket or bow on the 816 bed.

I understand there is a purpose made cover for the wreckers but as yet have not come across any, our M62 is 33" centers and the M936 is 33"1/2 centers
with two stake holders behind cab, we used M35 sheet to cover wrecker as
it was the nearest to fitting while not ideal it does the job for the winter months,
All we need to do now is find somthing for the M945 bridge layers we have,quite a Rust problem when you live couple miles from the Ocean as I do.

I have contacted you in the past as well as many other people who have had problems with Marltrax and Litchfield specialsit vehicles and we have all had the same sort of treatment, ie you have been rude to people, hung up on them, called them liars, let them down, not done what you have said you would etc etc.

You and your son have made yourselves very unpopular in the M serires world here in the UK and I know of a load of people who will agree with me.

here in the uk vehicles registered approx 1972 and olde are classed as "historic" and so are exempt/road tax free.Insurance per year is approx £60/£70 fully comprehensive.Large goods vehicles can be driven on car liscense if registered pre 1960.And again large goods vehicles registered pre 1960 and recovery(suspened tow) trucks are Mot/plate/testing exempt. Fuel is the real costly thing here!.Many people here drive military vehicles on these exemptions but like many things i would imagine all is ok with the police until you hurt/kill someone and then they thro the book at you."U S trucks always seem much cooler/better looks/bigger engines( why have 2 axles when you can have 3???etc). thanks martin

Sorry forot to say one important thing is if you drive a vehicle on thses exemptions in UK it must not be for business use/ hire or reward and trucks used unladen etc.thats the theory anyway??. martin

Mine :mrgreen: I had to cut four inches off the bottom of the fiberglass uprights to get the cover to drop down to where it is now. I plan to take the bracketts off the backside of one of the extra cabs and bolt them to the sides on the 816 so I can tie all of the ropes. Second pic is before I cut the uprights.
