How many CUCV II's were produced?

Got a call from a friend yesterday not far from me, he bought a pickup a while back and he says he wants me to look at it, says I'd "find it interesting". Upon inspection, it was a 1998 Chevrolet CUCV II. The paint was white, but it was a repaint so not sure of the original markings/livery. Had a blackout light up front, the brushguard was gone but you could see where it was bolted to the bumper. Rear bumper was torched off sometime in its life, and the bed was replaced with a homemade stakeside bed for hauling stuff. Rest of the truck was solid, no interior damage and no rust or collision damage. Only beef I had was it has 207K miles, but the 6.5 diesel engine and auto tranny were installed new 71K miles ago, runs like a top. He told me he wouldn't mind selling it for $3,200, but he didn't have to, it's useful to him around the farm.

I'm mildly interested in it (only mildly, I'm more of a Dodge fan), to bring back to it's former glory, or modify it for my uses of going to the shows and offroading.

Question I have: how many of these CUCV II's were made? I can't find much in the way of production data - although I did find that most of the ones procured stateside were for Air Force use.

I have here between 800-1000. No official numbers that I am aware of.

So, I take it there is no official numbers available outside of GM records? Guess they made so many CUCV 1s in the mid-80s that the II's weren't really needed by anyone in great quantities.
