I would almost think its brake fluid, but that wouldn't make any sense if it leaks on the inside floor then, would it?
So can I assume it's the Hydro unit?
-Is there a rebuild kit out there or do I have to replace the whole thing?
-What should I look out for?
-Good idea to replace PS, too?

I don't have any braking issues , as of yet.

My 1009 did same thing, only fluid in that area is hydroboost and master cylinder.I replaced both, was pretty easy. I know it was the hydro, but master cyl. was cheap so replaced both. To make sure what was leaking laid a few paper towels down on floor board where it was leaking and determined it was pwr.steering fluid.by the color of the leak.....

Yep, it's the hydroboost. Do a search on me doing mine about a year ago and I think it is a sticky. I went into very great detail on how to do it.

What I can see is very dirty black and oily.
So I have no idea if it's brake or power steering fluid. Just that Brake fluid wouldn't make much sense there, I mean it would have to pass through the hydro boost to come out on the other side of it.

You can also check your heater hose and core. just saw black and oily, so doubt it's that but if the vehicle is new to you, it's a cheap easy PM thing.

Stick your finger in your power steering reservoir and see if it looks the same.

Is there a mechanical oil press. gauge installed in dash? Mine also looked black and oily it wasn't til I did the clean white paper towels in drip area trick to see the color.
