Rather than going into something blind, I thought to see if anyone has removed the spindles from a M116A3 to re-weld them into the stub axle after being shorten?
I am narrowing the track on a M116A3 to match up with my Pinzgauer ( roughly 10” narrower). I want to keep the raised center axle, hence need to cut the axle outside the spring perches on both sides, moving the hubs in approx 5”. Current spacing is approx 9 1/2" from the backing plat to the cross brace next to the spring. Plenty of room for cutting.
To answer questions before asked.
Cutting the track that much will still be a lot wider than to that of a M416 ( but the M116 bed)
Do not want to use dually rims
The raised axle is a nice match to the portals of the Pinz ( as the M116A3 is to the HMMWV)
The surge brakes is just a nice plus, but not necessary with the 6 wheel disc brakes of my Pinz.
My M116A3 actually has a narrower A2 bed (no fender extentions), so the tires and wheels will tuck nicely under the fenders
