Another no start thread.......

Ive used the search feature without finding these symptoms, and now have looked at the tms without much further understanding of the problem.

I have an m1009 with starting problems.

Initially I had to use the cold start procedure to start it up every time. Always push the accelerator to the floor before turning the key.

This became intermitent, and now even when I push the accelerator to the floor, the starter does not turn over. In fact sometimes when I turn the key to start I have to stomp on the pedal quite a few times before the starter will even turn over.

Batteries are full.
Glow plugs are new and have tested to be working.
Cant really test the starter.

I'm thinking its one of the fuel solenoids on the IP as the accelerator pedal seems to be getting in the way of the starter turning over.

Anyone have any experience with these symptoms? Any advice besides use the search and check the tms would be appreciated.

The pedal and starter for most intents and purposes are unrelated. Have you done the starter relay update (doghead mod) yet? If not then do this first. Once this is done it will make initial testing easier to do. When you say batts are full, what do you mean? They need to be load tested not just voltage tested.

If you have already done the doghead mod then I'd check the starter & the red wire for voltage and its possible the starter is junk! does it still have 24v system right?

Awesome, I was hoping the pedal and starter were unrelated as the wiring diagram showed one thing and my experience with the vehicle suggested another. I am the 4th owner of the vehicle, military being the first, and have not inspected the starter relay yet, but am now suspecting it more.

Batts are full meaning I placed them on a charger and they are ~6 months old. Also, they have no problem cranking it over when it does crank. No access to load test at this point, just experience that suggests they are good, not a true rule-out.

Also, turns out that the relay is gone and has been replaced by a jumper. Dirty plugs on the jumper seem to be the culprit and now the vehicle turns over without accelerator movement. Thanks again to Recovery for the direction.

I was just reading his last posts, yes he did the doghead mod. I'd check go to the starter check the red wire for voltage and its possible the starter is junk! does it still have a 24v stock system right?
Also, turns out that the relay is gone and has been replaced by a jumper. Dirty plugs on the jumper seem to be the culprit
I'm confused.

Thanks! Im sure with my new purchase, Ill be on here a lot. :)

I know a picture is worth a thousand words, so I will post one when I'm done with my trip. (picking the vehicle up in Oregon and driving it down to Southern California tomorrow.)

Perhaps a few words can paint a basic picture however:

The relay is gone. The plug that connects to the relay is jumped with a small wire, spade connectors on either side, connecting the ppl wire on the plug to the ppl/wht wire on the plug. Open ground and open red wire.

Again, I am the 4th owner, so I have no idea what someone else did, or why. I'm guessing someone did a 12V conversion but have yet to check the starter to be sure. Anyhow, I will iron that out when I get home, I just need it to start and run for 850 miles or so. And with the fuel economy reported on these things, I'm hoping to stop only once and incur minimal starting opportunities.

Yes, that would suggest it has a 12v starter, at least.
