M35A3 alternator NAPA cross reference

If I were you I would contact tmamerica and get his bracket kit to convert to a civilian delco 27si alternater. Brackets and alternater together will be half or less than half of a n.o.s. military alternater.

That and if it ever dies any local starter and alternater shop can rebuild it....CHEAP.

I used this alternator: http://www.spidermarine.com/inventory/104834-100-new-delco-24-volt-70-amp-alternator
with this pulley: http://store.alternatorparts.com/partno241751.aspx

That part number cross referenced with a pulley spider had and I bought it from them and they installed it before they shipped the alternator.

I fabbed up the bracket to mount this alternator using the original length belt already on the engine.

I used a move the upper bracket to locate the alternator as well.

I posted a few pictures of my M35A3 during the bracket build.

Hey guys, thanks for the reply! I went ahead and found a local alternator repair guy. He immediately told me he couldn't/wouldn't work on my massive paperweight before I even set it on the countertop. But he offered an idea to convert to a civilian type. He gave me the exact delco 21S and pulley you mentioned, trukhead. I sawzalled off the welded bracket nuts and bought new hardware to include a 1" long steel spacer.

I found a NOS alternator on eBay for $800. Erik's wants $470 for a rebuild. Civilian conversion was $219. I win!

Ya, your setup looks good. I meant to say the pictures of my setup were in my profile photo album. The one wire setup is easy to wire.

looks like a delco with a 24v reg installed

If the issue is output (voltage too high or too low) then it might just be the voltage regulator that sits in the "end cap" of the alternator. Cap plus regulator replace for about $80.

You would be looking for P/N SAW-10799130 or NSN 2920-01-079-9130, if your alternator is the usual 60A NSN 2920-00-909-2483

If the alternator is seized or has bearing whine, its a different story.
