I am getting confused by the numbers, can you help me understand them?

I bought an M931A2 recently. I am trying to figure out ratios and parts. I keep seeing reference to 939s and I don't understand what the differences are. I see M939A2 as well. Can someone break it down for me? I know my truck is a 1991 and it has the 6CTA engine. I am trying to figure out what transfer case it has, I am assuming all the 5 tons have the same axle ratios, but I am not 100% clear on that either.

So my M931A2 is a 939 series truck? What is the difference between a M931, M931A1, and a M931A2?
The differences are covered in the TM. There are subtle difference between each but the A2 has the 8.3L and CTIS, which is the biggest difference between it and the A1 or even the A0.

So it has the overdrive transfer case and 6.44 gear ratios in the axles like all the others, or is that something not designated by the models?

I am starting to figure things out, I downloaded the TMs and I have to go through my manual, but I left it at the shop. I just bought some slave plugs so I can charge the batteries easier. I also have a really big jump pack, my 24 volt forklift. I am looking for the 6CTA manuals and parts catalogs now.

The parts book, i.e. The "-20p" for the vehicle series will list "usability codes" by fsn for each vehicle covered by the book. Thus the different transmissions for trucks with and without power take offs and other such differences can be figured
out to obtain the correct parts.
