5-Ton (M816) Oil Pressure Gauge Question

Hey Guys,

I have a '70 816 and my oil pressure gauge is in need of replacement. It is a mechanical gauge, as evidenced by the oil leaking on my foot. :p I've spent the last hour looking, but haven't found anything regarding mechanical gauges on these trucks. Does anyone have a part number for a replacement gauge? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT:

For future reference, if you happen to have a mechanical oil pressure gauge in your truck information for it is found in TM 9-2320-260-24P-2 under Group 47 "Non-Electrical Gages".

The NSN is 6685-00-515-3478 - Cage 57733 - Part Number 508A

Most "normal" MV suppliers don't seem to carry it by looking online. If you call them might have it, I purchased mine though this source:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/230982599151?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

If the eBay add is expired, it was listed by eBay user "klessman" under "STEWART WARNER 508A 7954512 PRESSURE GAUGE 0-120 PSI". My offer of $32 shipped was accepted.

One option is to look in the parts TM for the part number and then contact any MV business( several advertise on our site/notice the ads)

Another option is to do a Google search for "military oil pressure gauge", then sellect any of the 300,000+ results like this one, http://www.bigmikesmotorpool.com/products/oil-pressure-gauge-0-60-psi-ms24541-2

There are 2 different gauges (and sender units), so you will need to match the gauge to your sender. One reads 0-60 and the other 0-120.

Other option is to use the "MS" number printed on the face of the instrument. It will get you the exact replacement.

Do you just read the titles of peoples threads and reply with the most snide comments that comes to mind? Wait, don't answer that. It was rhetorical. Thanks for the information on the electronic oil pressure gauges. That is VERY helpful in finding a new mechanical oil pressure gauge.

Snide?

How frigging hard is it to find a gauge forsale or vendor that sells one with the internet?

I GAVE (did all the work for you)you all you needed to solve your need.

If you really looked for an hour with no luck, perhaps you need more help than we can offer here on SS.

I'm not stupid, I checked a good number of sources for a mechanical oil pressure gauge and had absolutely no luck. I tried plenty of searches on Google, and checked eBay too. Searched SS with various keywords and search types. All of the ones I see are electronic or not stated. The one you linked to was electronic as well. Maybe I am searching for the wrong thing, maybe they are hard to find. All it takes is someone helpful to chime in and say "XXXX Vendor has the mechanical gauges, but you have to call and ask for them." or "They aren't very common, but the part number is ________ you can try searching for that"

I stated in my original post I did not have any luck searching for the part, so someone chiming in and telling me to search for the parts is quite annoying. Especially remarks like "notice the ads" and "300,000+ results" don't give me a fuzzy feeling. Especially when I have already checked your vendors, and looked at a hundred links to electronic sender gauges like the one you linked to.

I'll go dig through the TM's and see if I can find anything. If I can find something helpful I will post it in this thread. If I don't have anything useful to add I will keep my comment to myself.

Are you 100% sure that your oil pressure gauge is mechanical?

You could have oil in your air system, coming from an air item.

Yes, gauge is mechanical. Oil pressure gauge is filling with some very black oil (time for a change I think). I guess not a lot of trucks have mechanical gauges, either that or they rarely go bad.

If anyone is curious, the listing in the TM's for the mechanical oil pressure gauge is listed in TM 9-2320-260-24P-2 under Group 47 "Non-Electrical Gages"

The NSN is 6685-00-515-3478 - Cage 57733 - Part Number 508A

Should help immensely to find a supplier.

Fwiw,, my first post was an honest effort to help you.

After your reply to that(post #4), my interest may have changed based on your reply.

Funny thing is, I just realized when I posted #8, that you are saying that you have a mechanical gauge and not an electronic one.

My mistake on that, but it would have helped if you simply pointed that error out to me.

I was really trying to help you(misunderstanding your issue)

Did some looking at some of your past posts, and now realize I actually made the first mistake when I tried to help you.

I thought all the oil pressure gauges on 816's were electric. Now there was a gauge in the top left and i forget what that was for... something like priming the fuel or something? I would have to look at the manual and see..... but it isn't that one, is it? don't forget to check grounds when working with electric gauges. Grounds can cause all sorts of weird problems. I am sure you will figure it out though. Post some pictures if you want... we love pictures!

Try this one:

http://www.eriksmilitarysurplus.com/prga0psmsfa.html (it's a 24v gauge, call them they can find one for you)

I ran into the same problem with my 817 and called the above (spoke with Erik).......they're an invaluable source for finding replacement parts (along with our members). I expect to be ribbed when posting (I actually look forward to it as I know at one point they were a new guy like me).......no need to be thin skinned with any comment in here....we all have fun in this hobby.
