Alternator repair question

Hey guys, rebuilding my 2nd alternator, first time I got the rebuild parts from cucv electric, this time I got them from ASP wholesale and there is a part that I am not sure of what it is or where it goes as the one I am rebuilding didn't seem to have it. Any ideas.

I used the old one on my alternator rebuild as the hole spacing on the new one is different.The old one is cylindrical in shape with wire running around the outside.

My bad.I got confused.But my new resistor didn't fit either(the spacing was out)
