lighting Fixture Ballast

I picked up a 10' EMI container yesterday fro GL Barstow.
The Fluorescent lights have been raped. The ballasts and bulbs
are gone.

The lamps are easy because there is a stamp that says;
RELAMP W/ F40T12CW A quick search and I see these
lamps are easy to get. The ballasts have no such label.
Any electricians here that can guide me to these animals?

There is a 4 pin'ed connector I assume the replacement ballast
connects to. I would prefer the correct plug and play ballast.
Here is a picture of things;

I believe these threaded studs are ballast mounts, they measure
like 8.88" CC and about 1.70" CC ;

That was a shame and quite unfortunate for you, If you can not trace the originals, you may have to go with selecting suitable replacement ballasts and chokes for the type and power of tube you select.

Look for a ballast to fit the lamp specs. A little wiring may be necessary, I don't foresee a plug 'n play. Wiring diagram will be on the ballast lable. Go to an electrical wholesale house, you'll have better luck than dealing with Home Dumpo or Blowes.

Sure, cutting off the connector and 4 wire nuts and I will be done
I guess...

I am beginning to believe that the ballasts were plundered
BECAUSE they are made out of unobtainium.

I may need to think this a bit harder.

If OEM parts are not there to be had cheap then maybe I should
consider a solar panel and a few battery's and bulbs to suit?

Gosh I am so not up to speed on ANY of that...

Any solar pros on board? Ha!

I mounted a smaller version of those lamps made by Specialty Lighting in the laundry room of my parent's house years ago. Within a week, it was blinking so badly that I thought it would give someone epilepsy. My dad and I replaced it with a much better fixture made by GE.

Yea....there dated 1987 but I do have all 4 of what
I think are called the defusers, meaning the clear-ish
covers for the lights and not wanting to tear it all out
because that means $ to put it all back. We'll figure
sumthang out eventually.

...and that is why I am here, to learn this stuff.

Right now the LED option is looking good and installing
my first solar system is in the running as well. It will give
me a lot of knowledge I NEED.

Any Solar guys here?

I still say any company that will sell simple solar systems,
complete but expandable will win the solar sales market.

One company is selling panels, another batteries, another
inverters, another brains. But none are selling simple DIY
here are all the AMERICAN MADE parts and from a company
that is in it fo rthe LONG HAUL.

If you go solar leds draws lower.The light emitting diode is your best bet.I do not know what your application is so try these sites instructables and how stuff works and once you get a working knowledge of photovotaics try how much power does my stuff use then can you make a accurate power assessment subtract 20% and allow for voltage drop.and you are good.Do not buy from harber freight.They sell crap and I do not buy from somebody who has a I.C.B.M.aimed at U.S.

Some old ballast contain PCBs, I would imagine that's why they were pulled and sent to a hazardous waste landfill.

I do know the local scrap yard won't take complete florescent fixtures for fear they will end up with PCB contamination. They will take the fixtures if you pull the ballast first.
