Hoping to grab a starter from local napa, any idea if they carry one for the 250 and what the number might be. I think it is only a bad solenoid but I am against the wall here. Searching the forum from my phone isn't easy and I have had no luck.

For that kind of money, contact "74m35a2" He has the good gear reduction starters for not much more.

Yes and thanks GR !!! The hits just keep coming with you, don't they? I do have 12V and 24V for most all medium and heavy duty 6 cylinder diesels. No Blazer V8 diesel stuff.

I worked at NAPA for a while and Wilson is a top notch HD electrical brand.

My son works at O'reillys and I am trying to decide on his employee discount or try the newer style from 74M35A2........

Reman? (*pukes on floor*). Mine are factory new, produced in 2015. I warranty them for 3 years unconditionally, including if you sink it in water. They weigh 1/2 of the old type, they don't crank slow when hot, they are super quiet, have a fabulous over-running clutch built into the drive, and they pull 50 amps less.

Ask WildChild467 about the one we put on his truck. He probably has one of the only MV's that sounds like a brand new Fed-Ex truck starting up.

All aside, I respect your either decision. 2cents

Is that cause of the blow by in his motor?!!

DOH!
Yeah, it puffs like a steam engine. Poor kid just doesn't want to accept that a 40 year old engine needs a rebuild. Heck, my heart valve needed replaced at 40, so no way his rings should still be ok !!!

Thank you for the numbers. I used the NAPA starter for lack of time. I can say that if you grab this one make sure to grab some modern 12 point bolts with smaller heads otherwise you will have to grind down part of the starter and a box end wrench in order to tighten it. At least I had to. That number should be added to the 5 ton sticky along with the number for the gear drive.

Well this is fun. The day after replacing the start I have the same issue again. Now the last starter was bad for sure inside but this one has the same initial symptoms. Go to start and it just clicks. Tested the cables for resistance and loosened all the nuts and snuggled them back down. Good connection on all. Still the same. When I jumper the solenoid manually I still get just the clunk. It was suggested the bendix might be sticking. I tap on the bendix pivot very lightly and it fires right off. When I had it out I saw no starter ring gear damage and the drive gear on the starter looked new. Is it really possible I replaced a nearly new bad starter with a new one that is also bad? Can the poster with the gear reduction starter please e-mail me more information on it?

I am open to ideas. It is killing me to keep refunding money. Makes us look bad too.
