I would like pics of "many pistons had broken rings"!!!!
Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!
Ummm, then come over and bring your camera.I would like pics of "many pistons had broken rings"!!!!
Thanks for the love. He rolled it over to build oil pressure with the injectors out, bled the injection, and it is ready to fire. He has worked till 4am each morning doing so during the week, so doesn't leave much time for sleep, post updates, etc....hence my input. We are filling it with coolant, firing it up, looking for leaks, bolting the hood back on, and taking it for a long drive tonight (Woodward Dream Cruise for anybody familiar with it, see you there). It will cool overnight, and he can re-torque the heads the next day and call it done. He is very interested to see how it will behave, as many of the pistons had broken rings as his daily driver and it still ran, vs now everything is fresh and correct. He also exclusively runs WMO thinned about 10% with gasoline or whatever he can find, so that plays a slight mystery card into all of this. Stay tuned, story at 11.....

I don't have a video of it starting for the first time... I'm sorry. It did what it would do typically if you put on injector lines that were empty... it cranked a little bit and then fired off. Didn't run the smoothest for about 10 seconds and then it smoothed out. I let it run for about 4 minutes at about 1400 rpm to check for leaks and then I hit the road to run it on the highway and break it in. It starts a lot better without the need for any throttle upon start up. Doesn't quite start like a 6-71 like all it needs is half a turn and it's running, but it starts very well. I have not cold started it yet. I got it home last night and shut it down. I need to retorque the head tonight, make sure my intake an exhaust manifolds are still tight to the head, fix a possible leaky injection line at my hydraulic head, degree engine/pressure wash, check fluids and add a little more coolant (to make sure it's full) and just one more final look over of everything to see if I see any potential problems/issues. I did notice I still have some puffs of blow coming out of the slobber tube. Everything in my engine is new and can't seem to think where it is coming from. But maybe it's because the rings are not worn in yet or maybe my air compressor needs new rings? Not sure but it's better than it was before by far. Let me get the engine broke in and then I'll see how it is after. All my piston rings are aligned properly so who knows. I'm not worried about it right now. I'll put some miles on it and then re-evaluate.G'day everyone,.....
I hope we get to see video of the Deuce firing up for the first time,....?
Fingers crossed for you and all the great work done.
Aussie.
Don't let him fool you. He pulled up in front of my house un-announced yesterday with the hood still off, like a zit-faced 17 year high school old teenager with a 78' Camaro that just put new yellow Accel spark plug wires on the 305, grinning from ear-to-ear. He really had that look on his face which said "From here, I will command my people!". I was happy for him. His new squeeze is pretty cute also, the wind is finally blowing at his back.I don't have a video of it starting for the first time... I'm sorry. The power seems a lot better I think. It seems to go through the gears a lot better and have good power. I have my fuel turned up (never adjusted it post rebuild so I could determine before and after power) and it seems to run very well. I would love to hook a load on it to see how it runs but I don't have a trailer or anything that is easy to hook on to. So far so good though!
Glad you got her back together. One helluva accomplishment getting the engine rebuilt. ...................Keep us updated on your assessment after the overhaul.
Hah, been there - done it, and I think I know well what is easier to do....I think I took it easy and just replaced the entire engine/tranny.
You gotta go over and remove his drive-shafts while he is sleeping!Don't let him fool you. I really wanted to change the mail bearings too but it was too much work to do that I think. So I just did rod bearings. It runs good. 74M35A2 and I went out to the preview of the Woodward dream cruise tonight. He drove his bone stock M925A2 and I drove the deuce. After I got my truck in 3rd gear, I could pull away from him until I hit 50mph... that's where I stop. Made me feel good whooping that old man's truck.... I was tired of being left in the dust all the time

While the front shaft is out, maybe he can replace that stiff u-joint that I have been meaning to replace too. HahaYou gotta go over and remove his drive-shafts while he is sleeping!
You also changed from single- to twin-nozzle piston oilers ("double-squirters"), without touching the original oil pump? Any noticeable difference regarding OP?So I just did rod bearings. It runs good....

If the springs didn't rust away in your tool box.It will just push me to install the aftermarket governor springs and turn my fuel rate up and injection timing up also on my Cummins 8.3, then you will be back in my rear-view mirrors again, where you belong.
I do too. My only concern was/is that eventually the std. pump would be insufficient and the oil pressure dropped too low after the oil got hot?..... I do like the idea of having the double "nozzle" (the TM called them nozzles) piston coolers just to have the added protection against hot pistons....
