Clutch Return Spring

After replacing my transmission and getting the proper free travel adjusted on the clutch pedal I noticed that it wont pop back up from the free travel portion of its movement. Once you get down to actually operating the clutch it comes back to the point where the free travel starts it just stops. If you lift it up with your foot and it'll stay where you leave it.

I'm thinking the problem might be with the spring straight back from where the pedal's linkage connects to the clutch release shaft, it seems like it might be weak. Does this sound right, or did I do something wrong? Where can I get one of these springs?

i had this problem when i hooked up all the linkages after i did my clutch. there is a bolt and lock nut in the linkage, i cant remember exactly where, but if you tighten it all the way it will keep the pedal down like yours is doing. loosen it a little and it should work.

Its an old post, but would this be the nut under the master cylinder access door? My clutch doesn't pop back like it did before.

He was talking about the linkage causing binding due to the fact it was out of alignment. If yours has worked fine ( and you haven't messed with the linkage) and now is starting to cause trouble I would get a new return spring.

Well, i dont have anything binding up, my clutch pedal is making full connection and has good travel.... but i catch myself pulling the pedal back out with my shoe tip... I know there is a spring on the brake pedal, but I dont remember one on the clutch.....

Yep, it's a good size one too. You should have to use a vise-grip pliers to remove it. If it comes off easily then it's too weak, which it sounds like already.

The clutch linkage has an offset in it. If it were installed upside-down then it would bind.

I know my throttle linkage has an offset that was on backwards, and I greased up the clutch/brake pedal pivot rod, and if it can be "over tightened" then that would be something i am sure i did.

The clutch is smooth, the pedal just doesn't come back fully out like it did.

How about some closure here. Did you ever figure out what the problem is?
