Heating a S280

Well I've almost got my S280 ready to go camping in. It's getting the time of year where I quit worrying about a/c and start focusing on heat.

What are people using to heat these shelters? I see a lot of options out there but had rather not gas myself while I'm closed up in there. I know I could go with electric heat but had rather not carry the generator with me.

I have a Mr Heater Big Buddy and even on the lowest setting, it's too much for my ambulance. Lots of good reviews on all the Buddy heaters. I do use a carbon monoxide alarm. Might also need a small batt powered ceiling fan. I can smoke my kids out of the upper litters if I don't run the fan.

I'll assume the Buddy heater is Gas? And I agree a carbon monoxide alarm is a must.

I have a buddy heater that has a built in CO detector and a tip sensor. Both will shut it off if either situation is encountered. I have used it in a tent. I would recommend a secondary CO detector as back up. Better safe than dead.

I have been looking at heating for my 10' EMI shelter.

..and for emergency use.

I am considering buying at least 4 Mr Heater Little

Buddy Portable Heaters and see how they work.

They can be had on Ebay for $66 w/ free ride.

I would be down for a group buy if someone wants to coordinate.

If we could get them for $55 EACH w/ free ride we would be way

ahead of the game. I am good for 4 at that price.

I have been told from an actual homeless person in MI that wrapping up in 15 blankets is the magic number for staying warm in a shelter with no heat on the coldest of days.

Even with a redundant carbon monoxide and low oxygen detection systems I still don't think I would be brave enough to have any ventless heater that produced carbon monoxide inside a shelter. Outdoor convection type blowing fresh heated air inside would be my choice.

BUTSOMEHOWEVER,

Heat is great in these enclosed spaces, I would venture
to say that the majority of "thinking men" they will always turn these devises
off before shut eye......................and they are QUICK to fire them off
first thing the next morning upon awakening as well... Yes?

You're going to have alot of data points across the spectrum of folks within the population. From "wouldn't have it to begin with" to "turn it off religously" to "may remember to turn it off if I don't party too hard that night" etc.

I've used propane heaters for decades. All it takes is a little common sense. Of course that is assuming a lot in todays society !

Even those with common sense make mistakes and have accidents. One mistake or accident is all it takes to wake up dead usng anything within an enclosed space that may deplete oxygen levels while you are sleeping.

The big buddy does have a fan that runs off a bank of D batteries. With sensible use, I've gotten several days out of them.

How about getting a used propane "furnace" from a trailer or camper?
They pull air in from the outside, use it for combustion and then vent the combustion outside again.
I put one on my car trailer/camper. Works great. It does require 12 v power to run the igniter and the blower.
Only required punching two 2" holes thru the skin of my trailer.

Sensible use to me would mean not sleeping while in use.
