Rebuild Date?

How do know if one of these trucks has been rebuilt? Is that where the A1/A2 designations come from? Then, how do you find out when it was done?

I keep seeing private sellers saying a truck was 100% rebuilt by the military on such and such date? That is why I am asking.

Mine has a dated overhaul tag fixed to the drivers door jamb.

A1 and A2 usually indicate design improvements on newer models.

A rebuilt truck from the Gov doesn't mean everything was rebuilt, the short story is if a part was out of spec's it was replaced sometime with new some with rebuilt usually most of the rubber good are replaced with new and a paint job. Some also have a rectangular plate to to the right of center on the dash rebuild.jpg stating where and and the mileage on the truck at rebuild and some of the ones done in Ks at RSMS have it on the drivers door jam.
A lot of the triangular tags on door jam are just for a MWO, Modification Work Order, and depending on the numbers on the tag reflect what was done which could be ABS was added on an early truck or gun ring ect. 939 series A2's has a turbo an any of 939 series can have the 14" tire applied but the A1 and A2 had them from day one.

I contacted Red River Army Depot about their "rebuild" program with the M939 series trucks. They apparently DO NOT rebuild the trucks there. They have a list of replaceable that they concentrate on like coolant hoses, belts, etc. They apparently do repaint the engines flat black but do not replace the engine unless there is something really wrong with it. So when you see a RRAD dataplate on the dash, it does NOT mean your truck went through a depot rebuild. They sent me an unclassified manifest of what they actually do. From the looks of it, it is mostly MWO's. Makes me wonder why they don't take care of these MWO's while at the unit or division level. Among the high priority items are: hardtops, 3 color CARC, replacing batteries (presently Hawkers are the prescribed batteries)

Private sellers making such claims are engaging in fraud and deception.

If they overstate the rebuild, I wonder what else they're misrepresenting.

A much more honest way to phrase such claims is "rebuild tag on the dash with xxxx date and xxxx miles. "

To claim a 100% rebuild is just unethical....

Okay,so my m925a2 has a "rebuild" date of 04/10, my hour meter only read 16 hours when I received the truck... What do you think that means?

So, when I bought mine, the seller said it had a new engine and transmission. The truck has 22,000 total miles, 160 miles after said rebuild date/mileage. Wonder if it did receive new engine/transmission as the seller stated? Hour meter now is at 17 HOURS, up from 16 hours, as I continue to troubleshoot CTIS.

Sometimes they did replace the engines. If so, it'll be readily evident.

A lot of the replacement engines were "dresser remanufactured" crate motors. Some were new cummins motors. I've seen 8.3 liter engines with manufacture dates as late as 2011.

I have a truck with an NH250 with a manufacture date of 2007 and that's the latest date I've seen on an 855.

My BS meter is twitching about your seller. If it had a new engine he should have been rubbing your nose in the data tag on the engine that shows it.

Yeah, the engine has a date of 19910311, it was bugging me and I went to check.
These are 600,000mile engines. If it runs good, that's what matters. Unlikely you'll wear it out.

Hour meters and odometers mean very little on these trucks. They get changed out often enough that all of them show low miles. A seller who emphasizes the mileage shown is a red flag for me. Or one that claims that everything was replaced at a rebuild. Why would they replace a part that was in spec?

Hopefully you didn't pay too much of a premium for the "new" motor and transmission.

This is a case in point of why I'd rather risk an auction truck over a private sale, unless I know the seller.

Auction trucks are a roll of the dice, and GP will treat it like scrap steel when you go get it, but they won't actively engage in deception.

Guess I got a lesson, I paid $15k for it. Received it a week ago and just now really started to dig in. Yesterday the pulley on the alternator fell apart,hoping my local alternator/starter shop can replace it, I pulled alternator today to take in for repair.

Guess I got a lesson, I paid $15k for it. Received it a week ago and just now really started to dig in. Yesterday the pulley on the alternator fell apart,hoping my local alternator/starter shop can replace it, I pulled alternator today to take in for repair.
Geez.. Seems like kind of a high price. Mine was in great shape with new paint and tires, just a few minor issues, and I only paid $7900 for it (seller was asking $8500.) I've had to change all of the fluids, etc., but that helped me learn more about the truck.

Ouch. I have browsed many eBay ads that claim whole rebuild too. Most people are amateur used car salesman. They will say anything. I think it's why I have a harder time selling my trucks, I am completely open with the buyer. Most guys see the trucks and say "it's in a lot beet shape than you made it sound on the phone"

M925A2, in excellent shape with all the bells and whistles should be somewhere between $9k and $16k. The winch adds quite a bit of value to it. If it had actually had a new motor, $15k is about right. That's what I'm expecting to see on my truck with the 2007 motor.

The $7900 you're quoting, is that final bid or to your driveway? If it's final bid, you're understating it by about 20%...
