axle running direction

can u turn a axle around to put the out put side on the other side or should u take the top off and and turn it there. I have the axle out so easy to just roll it in the way I want it. just not Sure if it makes a difference on the gears or breaks. doing this to put drive shady on the side I want.

Can't do either of you rotate axle tires will spin in wrong direction and you can't rotate the top cause of the ring and pinion is offset

If you mount the axle backwards, and spin the output with the same driveshaft rotation, the wheels will still go the right way. By driving the "wrong" side of the pinion shaft, it reverses the wheels, which cancels the reversal of the axle.
