And I thought handling 1/2" is work. I can't imagine 3/4" being any fun at all.

In my mudding pics in the convo section. Thats why i bring along a bigger out of shape friend who needs the workout and doesn't mind getting dirty.

If i am on a recovery I make them drag the straps out then they can pay me for getting them unstuck.

You know I saw on Soni's thread he used a small pony winch on top of his big one, to spool it out. I think it was 1/4 cable? Sure would beat pulling that heavy cable that far.

In the late 70's I wrestled a lot of 500 mcm cable for Square D wiring up to 16 lines per phase. It weighs 1.75#/ft. I slept good at night. The 3/4 is not quite as heavy but dragging it out, against a winch, well...what Ford Mechanic said.

I am debating on using 5/8" or 3/4" cable. $350 for 250ft or $520 for 250'. I know 3/4" is rated for 53k
I considered using larger cable,but since I was re-spooling 3 winches(760 feet!),I went with the 5/8, if I ever need extra capacity,I always carry 2 single sheave snatch blocks in every truck.

I usually carry 5 to 6 on the wrecker.

Dropped my front drive line on the M923A2 due to the vibrations at 40+. Found the mystery leak that made it loose prime..RRAD didn't tighten the copper fittings inside the frame before it connect to the rubber line (hope that did it).

I have crawled under my truck a few times to look for certain things and I am always like "what idiot did that?"

The one I acquired is a power in and out. It doesn't free spool. I decided to go with a 50k DP winch I found on an auction site. 960lbs/ It has 7/8" cable at the moment but rusty.. Around $1500 for winch, new cable, 45gpm pump, tank and aux engine. is what I think I am going to do. So it can be used at anytime. Specs are below. Probably pull around 28fpm with that pressure. It pulls 38fpm at 60psi.

I replaced the steering shaft with a new one. The upper joint on the old one had some play in it. The slip joint was still tight so I'll replace both joints later and make it a spare. While I was in there, I adjusted a little bit of play out of the steering box too. It was barely noticeable but it was there. An unexpected bonus was that this also stopped the slow leak from the input shaft seal. Can't complain there, and the steering is tight again.
