What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I think it is time Steel Soldiers went with another Server with more bandwidth and storage ! This site just told me the server was unable to handle anymore people ! This is happening with more and more frequency lately !

I left all mine parked. CUCV in 97 degree weather makes a nice lawn ornament. And that is all I am going to say about that. With them all CUCV'S lined up it looks like someone that lives here likes them.

It has been above 100 degrees some days here and I still drive mine. Gotta get my work done. Just drink lots of water and keep going.

Almost every 2WD dually had that sway bar. Keep looking for trucks being parted or ebay. There is a guy out west (ebay) who has sold a couple for around $200 delivered.

So Recovry4X4 I hear you installed a anti-sway bar in your M1031 ? How does it handle now ? Do you think it was worth the effort ? Also do you tow with your truck and does the sway bar help ?

I had one on an M1028 and it worked quite well. Truck was not a dually. Downfall was it eliminated just about all articulation. I really would like to put one on the ambulance but to this date I have not and am now looking to move it to a new owner.

Fired up Terminus M1009 and pulled a few unwanted shrubs for the neighbor. I seen him digging them out in 94 degree weather. No way I could watch. I had the starter relay stick on it and replaced it with an Autozone one for $15.90. Warranted for life. I still say that issue is caused by weak low voltage batteries. that was the case when I bought Terminus it had weak batteries. All is well the A/C in Terminus M1009 was not working so we pulled 2 shrubs and took a break and went and pulled 2 more. A man has got to do what he has got to do. I have been slacking on a few of my projects and working on a few others. But I had 4 shirt days this weekend. You know its hot when you need to shower and change your clothes 3 times in 1 day. My socks and shoes were filled with sweat. Just breathing made you sweat. Tropical humidity. Unreal. Have a great day and stay cool.

I drove my Jeep, with dogs, to the river. AC in the jeep with wet dogs still beats 95° in the CUCV.

I have come to the conclusion that the M1028/M1008 makes a droning sound at highway speeds that make you tired and put you to sleep. I drove my New Silverado from home to Ft Drum NY about 300 miles none stop one way. Loaded a vehicle and drove back non stop in 93 degree heat and never felt the need to sleep. And the crickets and droning sound was not there to fatigue me. I have driven these CUCV for 30 years and I do notice they do fatigue a driver rather quickly in this crazy tropical weather. I think dis comfort is a factor. Even a CUCV with A/C would have the same droning effect on the mind. And cruise control rules. I achieved 14.5 MPG at 75 mph with the trailer empty and loaded. I contribute that to the new truck with the tow haul mode. I had a rental trailer with the huge tailgate in the up position. Like a 5 X 8 sheet of metal in the up position. Good run non stop. Have a great day and stay cool my friends. Both my Son's thanked me for NOT driving a CUCV. I asked them if they thought I was crazy. never in this heat and that far again. Those days are done for this guy. Have at it. I done my time in the sweat boxes.

Man I feel you on that, I can't wait till fall when I can actually get some work done. I'd watch out for those Autozone "lifetime" warranty stuff though. Especially electrical stuff. You may end up replacing it once a month.

I drive through the night so I'm not fighting summer heat in the CUCV Solar Oven. I still stop every couple hours to stretch and hydrate. I wear earplugs to help with the droning. It's not like I'm going to hear much while driving my 1028A2 anyway.

Heck, I didn't know trucks had a/c until I joined this site. I have even heard that some have power windows too! Never had it this far in my life so no need changing it up now. Heat is better than cold to me. Never got heat-bite on the fingers yet.

The last few relays I bought were made in USA. I have had zero issues with them. I am not the type of person that generalizes things on other experiences or opinions. I have NOT had any trouble thus far after dealing with them as a supplier since the inception of Autozone so I don't feel the need to tell others negative information about anything they sell. Often times failures are associated with the improper application/installation and misuse or abuse. So on that note I will continue to purchase parts from Autozone as they have provided me with outstanding service and very competitive pricing. Not to mention I am supporting a local work force that I feel has gone out of their way to meet my needs and the needs of others that I have sent there. I like to deal face to face with a person I have come to know and trust vs saving $5. by going on line and getting who are you and when did you buy that part of internet marketing. Thank you and have a great day. If Autozone has it and it fits my CUCV's it is sold and that's the bottom line. I can make very few design improvements on a 30 year old 100+ thousand mile vehicle. Understood, Its just been my experience as well as most anybody I ask that the products they sell under the "Duralast" name. Have bin faulty or problematic with a typical life span of about a month. Batteries, brake pads, plug wires, water pumps, etc. I only shop with them as a last resort, and only name brand products that I can find elsewhere but maybe not in stock at the time. I have no malice towards them, I just simply don't want to waste my time redoing a repair I just finished

Yeah, I've had bad luck with some Duralast parts in the past and stick with other parts stores now, usually NAPA or Advance (now carries CarQuest brand parts though instead of the diverse line of name brands they used to). That or I buy Delphi/Delco parts online, or at the dealer. Motocraft for my 7.3 IDI F-350. You get the idea. I'm more picky about the part itself than who sold it to me but I do try to support the local stores when I can.

Really makes me laugh when I do order Genuine GM parts and they are made in China and cost more then the Autozone parts that are made in USA. No rhyme to the reasoning. Do as you wish. I have had a good long haul and spend hundreds of dollar weekly to keep several company and customers vehicles running. They keep coming back for different repairs so I must be doing something right. Maybe it's the perks they have. But sorry you have so many problems with everything you are buying. Have a great day. Stay COOL.

I finished wiring the yellow strobe and the Go Light. Both are magnetic mounted as I loathe drilling holes in vehicles.
The 2 red switches control the auxiliary fuel pump and the strobe. The black button is for manual glow plug operation. The Go Lite controller fits very nicely where the STE-ICE connector used to be.
The red and black wires go to a small 24 volt solar powered battery maintainer. No more weak batteries!

I've had mixed results with "lifetime guarantee" parts. I generally will pay more for made in USA or names I've come to trust.

I drove the cucv a little this weekend. Went up towards dover TN to hang out with the gf, it pulled the trailer with my Polaris rzr on it just fine.
I wheeled the truck a little bit to, rode some Creek bed. Almost got stuck once turning the truck around in 2 wheel drive. 4low and foot to the floor got the truck out.

I did find out something about my truck, the truck has rain sensing wipers that are apparently wired backwards. It rains and the wipers quit, when the sun comes back out they work again.

No. You got an Australian part right there; that's the problem. Down Under in Oz, you see, they'd work perfectly.

You either got to emigrate or swap out with Northern Hemisphere components.
