003A Just Chugging Down

Hurricane Matthew blew down my farm Friday night. The power went off about the same time. I cranked my MEP 003A Friday night at 10PM and it still is still chugging as of Monday night at 8PM. It has not been shut down. The power may not be back on before Friday. The house is 4200 sq ft and we are using every thing we need with a little load manage. Long live the 003A.

Excellent. From your title, I thought you meant the engine was slowing down with load. It's nice to have reliable backup power, isn't it? Our power went out for about an hour Sunday, after the storm was gone. I guess the 20 mph breeze blew a tree onto a power line. I was preparing for a long outage, since they were so widespread and the crews were busy, but just as I was talking to my wife about buying some extra diesel fuel, the power returned.

Here's to yours returning before too long too.

My brother was running his MEP802 for a day and a half. He is in the Kinston NC area.

In Efland we didn't loose power.

Well it is 4PM on Wednesday and still no commercial power in sight. The 003A is still humming after running right at 100 hours with out a break. Power company said it may be Friday before power is back on.

Those units seem so trusty and reliable in the prevailing conditions,. I have had an Onan 6,5 for some 12 years, and have only had to thankfully put 7 hours on it.

132 hours non-stop power from my 003A.Commercial power came on Thursday at 4PM. The 003 used about 110 gallon of diesel fuel and used about a quart of oil. I bought it 3 years ago. It has kept my house running for a week for two ice storms and one hurricane. Time to give it a rest and an oil change and a new oil filter to get it ready for the next time.

What does your fuel setup look like? Do you have an auxiliary fuel tank or are you manually adding fuel a couple times a day?

First two times I used the 003A for a week I used 6 gallon cans and manually filled the 13 gallon tank by hand. This worked but is a pain. This time I used a 55 gallon drum and the aux pump on the 003A. I had the 55 gallon drum in the front end loader of my tractor beside the 003A. Every two days I drove the tractor with the drum in the front end loader to the 1000 diesel tank on the farm for a fill-up. This worked much better.

That's pretty awesome! Some people say the 002's and 003's are too loud, but I'm going to add a muffler to mine. Sounds like you were smart in planning and had your act together.

Most of the noise from my 003A is not from the exhaust, which is really pretty well muffled as-is. You will notice a bit less low frequency exhaust sound, but no less ear shattering clanking and banging. :)

Or you may find an ASK around someone will sell you. When I got my 003A I found a member here who had an unused ASK at a reasonable price, and was ready to buy it when I started thinking about having to remove a panel every time I wanted to check or work on something.
