After market seats or alternate seats for HMMWV / m998 ?

So can the bar behind the driver and passenger be removed or altered to give that extra space? I just received mine and i was thinking of putting seats out of an late 90s prelude in it. Theyre low profile buckets just not sure about those rails behind the seats

It can in the sense that the vehicle isn't going to suddenly fold in half on you, but you need to consider the support that it's providing. In the event of a side impact, you basically leave nothing rigid there to support the vehicle body and prevent it from crushing you. As well, I imagine that there would be some body twist that would prevent and over time, would transfer that stress to somewhere else that would eventually fail prematurely.

Now, this item is hearsay, since I've never looked into it myself, but I believe I had heard that this bar might not be there on some H1 Hummers, and that it instead has some sort of reinforcement plate to provide similar support. Someone more knowledgeable than me may be able to chime in on this.

subscribing to this thread. I think i will be ordering those smittybilt standard bucket seats before summer ends and getting them installed.

For those who got smittybult, which ones did you guys order? denim or vynil? does your hmmwv gets water on inside, how are they holding up?

Brand new here and thought I'd jump in on this thread for my first try. I just picked up some amazing seats that are the perfect size, have arm rests and fold flat. I'm having the mounts fabricated now and will post additional pics when they are done. These are brand new 2017 takeouts from a Jeep I believe. There is a guy here locally in Phoenix that sells them on Craigslist for $250 a pair, so only $500 to put in brand new leather seats - they take them out for handicap conversions and he has hundreds of different brand new takeouts. If interested PM me and I can put you in contact with the guy. I'm thinking about buying a few sets just to have them available for future projects.

I build and upgrade Hummers and Hmmwvs, I always remove that bar. I put on Rock protectors from hummer h1, they look great and add protection to the underside for mudding and and 4 wheeling.

Found exactly same seats locally and cheaper than those smittybuilt off amazon.... i think i'll go pick them up.

How much custom modifications do you need to do to the front to mount them?

Would that work for the front as well as rear seats?
What about access to the storage areas under the rear seats as well as the battery box under the front passenger seat?

These should allow for access to the rear storage just like any other aftermarket seat, or even better because you can fold the seat forward - which gives more clearance to lift the storage lid up, just have to put on a piano type hinge along the back of the storage lid. With the new supports that are being fabricated the front seat should bolt right to the battery top cover just like the original seat. For the price I think these are hands down a better way to go than the smittybuilt seats - either way you have to do modification to make them fit.

how much ground clearance do you lose? it seems as if those rock protectors will make you "high center" and get stuck.

He has a few different types of seats and with modifications the other seats will work, but these seats have the best clearance that I have found (the are low and the seat portion does not stick out too far - not much leg room in the rear). If you contact the guy, I think his name is Jay, just tell him you are looking for the seats for a humvee and he will know which ones you are talking about. You can also text him a picture of the seat just so there is no confusion since he has so many different types. The brown ones are the hardest to come by, they go really fast, but he has a lot of black sets and light grey - again these are out of 2017 Pacificas so you can go to the Chrysler website and look at the different color options, he has most of them. I think that another member here has already contacted him and arranged for shipping. I told him he might be getting some out of state calls.

I would like to see a pic of folks sitting in those once mounted, with the doors on. I am curious where your head will be in relation to the door windows. They seem thick.

Max 1 inches, it just mounts to the bottom and 3 bolts in the front and rear wheel well

As requested, here are the pictures of the seat brackets we made and the seats mounted in the Humvee. It's not pretty but it gets the job done. The back seats and front passenger seat are mounted to the original bases with bolts. I will be installing larger washers when I get a chance to pick some up. Note on the back seats that it required washers between the bracket and the base on the seat side because the base overhung the edges of the seats.

I purchased a set of the black ones from him, they are really nice seats. I am using them for a 1993 HUMMER H1 restoration I am doing. Thank for the heads up joelaw
