both sides hood/windshield area mounts for what? pictures

What where these used for? Everyone has the hood cut on the drivers side for the mounts. Some hmmwv will still have the mount and some dont but what were the use?

used with the original makeup mirrors that the hmmwv's were fielded with. the west coast idea idea was a product improvement idea I submitted but never got credit for. am I pissed you bet the tacom rep was pretty disgusted too as he helped me put the whole suggestion together when I was just a private

pm me I think I have a box full of the NOS arms and NOS rectangular mirrors. They vibrate, wiggle and shake when the truck is moving.
