That being said here goes. I bought my first deuce in pretty rough shape so I’m having to fix quite a bit. Already put a new light switch box in to get the lights working. But when I turn on the head lights the park lol gets go off. It’s like I can’t have them both on at the same time. I’m not former military so this is my first dealings with these trucks. Is it supposed to be that way? Also, how the crap do you get the brake lights to work? My buddy that I bought the truck from has one that he’s had for several years and still hasn’t been able to get his brake lights working. I have much bigger plans and these little things are driving me crazy!!!

That is how the lights work on these trucks, no parking/marker lights with headlights on.

You can splice 2 wires together to make the parking lights stay on. This modification has been posted in the past. With a little searching, we can find it for you.

As for the brake lights, is the switch plugged in on the brake booster? If it is, then unplug it and see if they come on when you jumper the 2 wires. If they still don't come on, then your signal light switch is likely the issue. It can be disassembled and cleaned.

Most everything that you can experience with one of these trucks, has been posed over the last decade plus here on SS.

We will be happy to help you. Please try to search too.

Dad,
All good questions, the three lever light control switch has several switch configurations. Headlights, and service brake light, parking lights are all selected individually.
If you have it on for brake, the brake lights should come on with depressing the brake peddle. Sounds like the brake light switch may be inoperative.
You really need to get a copy of the operators manual, it is chock full of answers that need to be understood to safely operate the truck.

Welcome to SS, since your new to the M35 it would be a good idea to read the operator manual .
This just a suggestion that could save you from some costly repairs .

TM9-2320-209-10-1.pdf
TM9-2320-209-10-1 Operation, Installation and Reference data for the M35 series, Operator Level.

This is a good source to get to know your truck and what parts are called.

GTA-9-1-1851-8.pdf M35 complete diagram of with descriptions of all components.

The rest of the Technical Manuals can be download for free , you will need them at some point.
