Govplanet HMMWV Auctions ?

I've been watching the HMMWV auctions for about seven months, and I've noticed that recently, the number of HMMWV's up for sale each week is down, hovering around 47-52. This is roughly about half the number that were offered each week the same time last year. For those of you that have been watching the auctions for a longer period of time, do you think this is just a short term fluctuation in supply? I personally was wondering if this is Govplanet trying to limit supply to keep prices higher.

I was curious if anyone thinks that this is a sign of overall lower supply, or possibly just a short term fluctuation. I'm kicking myself now. A lot of trucks I passed on earlier for minor issues/imperfections I would love to see for sale again at the same prices.

Just looking for opinions, I realize that this is all speculation.

roughly 4000 have been sold through GP. I am of the opinion that we are on the downslope of supply. Yes, not at the end like the M939 5 tons or M101 trailers which hardly trickle out anymore.

There is for sure more in the pipeline but definitely shrinking. I look at 2 large armories by me and use that or any of the ones I see traveling as a gauge. M939's not seen at all anymore. Hmmwv softskins are seen but not at the same volume. I suspect the next big supply is when more of the replacement JLTV make it into the pipeline in large numbers and push the non armored out of the fleets with the hand me down armored.

GL had very limited offsite storage capacity. GP has copious amounts. GL seemed not to care if trucks sold below scrap value. GP does a good job extracting retail prices from them.

I can't believe it's a true downturn in supply.

The original release from the government was for 4000 trucks , GP has sold that batch . Now it depends on what the government releases,

YOU NAILED.....they auctioned HMMWV's without doors, than sell the doors at the parts section....I never liked their system, no one have a clue about the bids either

I think they pumped out a lot of the stuff that had been sitting around and for now there are just less to auction.
It seems like they “cleaned house” by selling the beat up and non running stuff first and now they are down to the ones in better condition. They also advertise a LOT that they have a limited supply remaining. I agree with Juanprado that the supply is starting to dry up some but I think GP wants us to believe we might never get one again if we don’t act now. Helps keep the bidding wars going strong. Just my opinion I don’t know for certain.

Limit amount sold and keep prices high.. No shortage of supply at all. Fields of em'. I put a few on my watchlist and see the same trucks come up all the time. Is gp running up the bids? or are that many people defaulting on a fat fingered, drunken bid lol---- Non running, parts missing, ratted out 3 speed 6.2 went for over 15 k yesterday.... Remember boys and girls DONT DRINK AND BID!!!!!

People are bidding more than you can buy a running road ready one at retail. So you get bidders remorse. Or they think they can put it on their CC and that dosnt work out for them.

I can answer a few of these questions with what I know.

Is the the supply dwindling? Short answer is yes, but not just HMMWVs. DLA Rolling stock as a whole has been dwindling over the past several months. This time last year we were receiving anywhere from 150 to 300 items a week (once again NOT just HMMWVs), over the past 3 months our average receipt of DLA items has been hovering between 75 and 150. There were a few weeks where we took possession of less than 30 items. We are being told to expect more HMMWVs in the coming months, however, nothing is for certain.

Same units being listed over and over. Yes our payment default rate across the board is around 4%, however if you look at HMMWVs specifically that percentage jumps up close to 10%. Why I have no idea, it could be the EUC requirements, the Bidding Bug bit, or the bidders did not realize they live in one of those non MV friendly states and in the long run it wasn't worth it. Honestly I don't know why HMMWVs tend to default more so than other types of equipment.

GP is purposely limiting supply to drive up demand...Yes and no, we do limit the number of units we put in auction, however we have always done that. The fact that we are getting fewer and fewer released to us causes us to limit the number available for auction. We try to keep the auctions around 300-400 items, in order to do that we have to meter out what we put in the auction to ensure that there is a diverse selection of equipment. If you look at the number of items available in the auction compared to the number of HMMWVs listed, you will see that the ratio has stayed fairly constant. We do this to make sure we can field a complete auction every week.

Parting out units...We do not and have never taken parts of an item, once again not just HMMWVs, in order to sell the unit and then the accessories later. If you notice most of the accessories currently listed in auction are from Private Sellers, NOT DLA. That of course will change once the Non Rolling Stock items start to become available, however up until then GP can not and will not offer cannibalized parts off of DLA equipment .

What is the difference between the HMMWV's we are getting though LESO and the ones being auctioned? The reason I ask is that according to the DEMIL code, all the ones we look at will never be sold to public because some are light armored, some are up-armored but it looks like some of the ones at auction are the same type we get that are restricted. Anyone know the difference?

After they are turned back in to LESO the armour is removed before it is sold to meet the de-mill requirements .

If this is true can you explain why my M998 had a note with the images that the fording kit does not come with the unit? Mine only had the intake stack, not the entire kit. I can understand leaving a complete kit adds value resulting in a higher final bid. However, I also understand that just the intake stack by itself is a desirable item and can bring in more when sold off by itself.

Seems odd to me to have the pictures occur before the item is in GP possession. In my mind that leaves GP as the ones making the call to not include the item in the sale with the vehicle.

I was also told buyers taking 10+ vehicles get to hand pick their vehicles and pricing is also worked out differently than bidding. GP may not be listing scavenged parts for sale but they have an easy route to offer the more desirable items to the bulk buyers/restoration guys behind the scenes. If GP keeps the restoration guys happy by giving them good access to the desirable parts they keep coming back to buy because their restorations can sell easier.

I understand I don't know the order of operations going on but from what makes sense logistically and logically it gives the appearance that certain items are preferentially scavenged.

I doubt there is price fixing going on. More and more people are wanting these vehicles. I now have people I don’t know coming up to me when I am in my 925a2, and they are asking me do I know where they can buy a Humvee.
