The Early LMTV are rusting like crazy- no corrosion protection until 97. Matter of fact. That and the resulting delay is the reason S&S lost the contract. These truck cabs looked like Swiss cheese already at the Sealey Plant and had holes while they were waiting to be installed on the trucks.
I have seen newer Chevys and Fords Toyotas with worst rust than on my cab. The rust I have found on my cab isn't that bad. Problem is these trucks sit outside, are never really washed and the rubber weather stripping is dry rotted...

Where you getting the weld in floor pan ?
Since no being scrapped trucks are in my area.... fellow helping me (well he's paid but he lets me help/get in his way) do axle swap and mount the Ambo box.... is also repairing the rusted out driver side floor boards. He made a template so he can make them for others who may need them as well. Same for side steps; but they will be stainless and at about same cost as what others are selling used / NOS last I heard. He's based in OH

the gauges have nonreplicable led's in them, if all gauges are out look at the bottom of the dash to the right of the steering column there is a dimmer for the panel lights

What are you guys using to seal the turret? The TM calls for some sticky back seal and aircraft fuel tank polysulfide sealant. I would assume the sticky back seal is like weather stripping... but I really son't want to deal with the aircraft fuel tank sealant... Granted the polysulfide sealant is good stuff but MEK or MPK is the only thing that will cut it.

Does anybody know what the greasy stuff is in the bracing/channels on the body? I have been cutting out the rust and the back side if the metal is greasy. Is this some type of rust proofing? Also will it cause issue with welding?

The greasy stuff is paraffin based rustproofing wax. And yes it will interfere with welding. It will catch fire easily also.

There are no more rust holes on my roof... Need to do some girding and body filler and then I can seal up the turret cover. Going much slower than I would like... with work, health issue and weather... Grrr... Take today... there was no rain in the forecast... I sure would like to know who wrote the law where just as soon as I get the welder set up it rains... &#&^$ northwest....

Wah. You’ve got a garage to work in and store your tools. I’m in an RV Park. Tools are in a utility trailer, no garage, can’t turn wrenches in the Park. But I have my LMTV in the storage area in the Park, and that helps scratch the itch! I’ve got a few buddies who have farms, and I can wrench there if need.
And everyone wants a ride in “the big Army truck” when I take it on the road! It’s all good!

we must be brother of another mother lol.... me too no garage.. and the surface to work on.... is gravel. but .... solution getting better.... finally got my tools out of storage and loaded into an old ambulance box mounted on a trailer. Now to organize them. Today got a leaky but other wise good 14x14 canopy to work under and a 10x10 for good measure.... total 60 bucks. Now some plywood to lay on... and get my generator and air compressor mounted and working... I can smelllll it.

WOW... I have had good weather and time to work on the LMTV... Got all the rust holes cut out and new metal welded in . Got that dent taking care of that the govplanetoftheapes put into her. Been WAY too long of a project.

I really didn't know what I was doing but I call this good enough. I wasn't wanted to go all show car with the body work.

Here are some pictures of the before and after

Spanky ya done good. Nice job on the rust and GP damage. GP put about a 10in long forklift gash in my S250 Shelter:poop:. When I get around to doing my repair, I hope it looks as good as yours.

Also in WA and reading because I would love to have one if these. Haven't had the nerve to bid on any as I don't know much about them or have any heavy truck maintenance experience. I like the ones Suprman has out there in my home state of CT, but too far away.

I saw a really nice privately owned tan one running down the highway in Kitsap County, just outside Silverdale last year, but haven't seen it again.

Good luck with the work and keep posting!
