J vs C Code 6.2

I've read several threads regarding swaps.
I need to replace my OEM J code in my M1009.
I can get a C code engine for hundreds less than a J code. These engines are are listed as a replacement for a 1990 truck.
If I understand it correctly, I can drop the C code in with no modifications?

Yes you can, Just reuse your intake manifold and exhaust manifolds with out the EGR parts and wala you will now have a J code engine.
