AS-1729 vs as-3900

Hello Brothers and Sisters.

I had a question if anyone can help? Which would be best(AS-1729 or as-3900) if I wanted to use for UHF or VHF radio setup? I need one for high gain and long distance. I am very new to the whole CB radio and the reseach I did on both AS-1729 and as-3900 said one is static and the other you can select frequencies. Thanks!

Both of these antennas are designed for use in the VHF spectrum from 30 -75 Mhz and I don't think either would work particularly well in the UHF world. Look for a RF-390 or an MP-3512 antenna rated from 30 - 512 Mhz. If your looking for long distance comms your going the wrong way. You want to look for an HF antenna like the AT-1011.

The AS-1729 and AS-3900 antennas are basically interchangeable form fit and function. The 1729 does have a stepper motor frequency selector to do some antenna matching whereas the AS-3900 has a broadband system that doesn't require it.

CB radio is HF 26MHz to 27MHZ. UHF is nowhere near CB.

What specific radio are you hoping to connect? 70cm Ham or FRS/GMRS (both UHF)

Well its not for myself, its for my sisters husband. He wants to connect Those or something similar to "BTECH UV-50X3". For long distance commuication. Perhaps you have a better suggestion on a mobile radio?

Need more info.

Is he licensed to operate in the amateur radio bands?
Is he licensed to operate in GMRS?
Is he licensed to operate in the Business Band?
Is he unlicensed and wanting to use FRS?
Is he unlicensed and wanting to operate in the MURS band?

If he is unlicensed and wants to operate in the FRS band, no antenna is needed because FRS doesn't allow external antennas. MURS is VHF and that radio may not by type accepted for its use; same with the business band. GMRS requires a license (no test and covers the whole family).

The radio you mention is a ham radio and will require a Tech level license for him to use. The test is relatively easy, but the study material will help him with understanding what antenna(s) he might want, what radio will do whatever it is he's hoping to do, and teach him the legalities involved in their use.
