M931A2 Tractor turned Dump

My boss bought a M931A2 WO/W, and he wants to simplify everything. Make it like an old tractor he says. Wanting to remove CTIS and black out system. Are these systems able to be removed and truck still function with a little bit of work?

Yes. 3/4" boss plugs for the rear CTIS port in the hub. Simply use a rubber plugs for the front holes in the flange face of the axle.

Blackout lighting removed doesn't hurt anything

I have done that, what about the control box on the side of the shifter and any other wiring and air lines? I am trying to remove as much as possible. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

You can twist the cannon plug off of the ECU and you will be good to go. No point in removing anything else other than wheel valves and weights if you want to.

Ok, thank you. There may be no point in removing anything else except the owner wants it all off of the truck. It will be going to the mountains in eastern Oregon to be used as a dump truck. He wants anything that will give him complications in the future eliminated from the source, throughout the entire rig. Solinoids, valves, etc.

I like the 931 with the air control for trailer brakes and adding a dump bed. It's the short wheel base, same as the 929. Don't remove the trailer brake air lines.

Some dump beds I looked at were $10-12,000, so I ended up with an 817 and then 929A2. The biggest weakness for a 5 ton dump truck is low-reverse, where the TC self destructs while backing up in low range.

If he wants a PTO for a hydraulic pump, I have one left. It's listed in the parts classified. You will have to use the driveshaft type, as there is no room for a flange mounted pump.

Problem is that most people don't understand how the system works. There is one pressure line going to the PCU; remove it and cap it if you want but there's no need to. Nothing is going to happen, break, etc with the ECU unplugged. Remove the wheel valves and install valve cores where the hoses were connected. Then when a tire leaks down, which is almost certain to happen, he can't blame it on the CTIS.

That is not correct ,you can do a direct pump mount PTO on a 931 and air shiftIMG_5541.jpg

Ha....that proves me wrong. I had that exact pump on my PTO for my M35A3, 15 tooth spline Muncie . In fact the ad for the PTO has that exact flange kit offered for sale also. I sold several of these PTO's and always thought it was too tight. I see air shift for about $120 and would build it ready to go if he wanted

The pump was too much flow for my use on my A3 (I didn't install it) and I used it on a sawmill. I took the flange kit off of that PTO and put on a 9 tooth, SAE A.

I have one virgin PTO left and the flange kit for that Muncie pump. I'll take a picture for the ad. My old pictures got wiped out showing it mounted on the rebuilt 1545 Alison

I ordered the pto new from Chelsea Parker with the options I wanted . It's the 221R housing which fits easier can find the part number if it helps anyone .

Added pictures of the PTO and flange kit in the classified for the setup that Glenngineer has above (less pump). Here is my setup going into my M35A3....finally....it took me forever to get the small flange kit.

I had to go with a smaller pump to fit my install,but went with a faster gear ratio to still get the flow I needed . Just started using mine this weekend, works great.
