Fuel filter conversion (would this be a suitable adapter)

This looks to be really cost effective compared to some of the deuce specific kits. But I don’t know much about diesel fuel systems compared to what I know about light car gasoline systems. Take a look at this filter base and please talk with me about it. Do you see any issues with it or is this something that has already been done with success. Looks like the primary and secondary could be done for much less than the kits that some are selling.

Water seperator FS1000 is a 10 micron and fuel filter ff105 is a 20 micron.


10micron filter will only last you around 6000miles. Luckily they are cheap

Those bases should work just fine, as long as you size it and the filters correctly. You really only need two filter units installed: a water separating primary filter and a finer main filter. I run 2 micron main filters on all my other trucks, I think the spin-ons on my deuce are 10 micron, and I think they are sufficient though I might look for finer ones next time around. Be aware in your searching that some spin on water separators have a pretty high (loose) micron rating, which may not be the best. You will still have the main filter, but better to give yourself two chances to catch any debris rather than one.

For clarification, my truck came with the complete jtonka kit already installed, and I really like it, especially for the oil filters. Were I setting up the truck myself, I would definitely go jtonka for the oil, but probably go your route for fuel filters. That would be a bit cheaper, allow me to position them a bit better, and do away with some of the numerous small lines and the extra filter.

Wix has a fantastic and informative website that gets deep into technical and application data for loads of their filters. Its a great resource and way to check out the filers you want to use. To avoid restriction, you can use their site to make sure the filters you want to use have been used on other big stuff. If it was used on, say, a DT466 or larger size engine, you know it will be sufficient.

You could also use an all in one Racor filter unit. Those have a water separator bowl on the underside and a fine filter up top.

I wonder if FASS or Airdog makes a 24v unit...?

4770s are great. Here's what I did.
