Grenaded rear end?

Long story short, M998 stuck in about 3ft of snow. (We just pulled it out so haven't looked at it on a hoist yet) rear wheels will not spin in H, HL, L and not in D, R etc etc. Front wheels spin fine. When shifting into D, R, 1, 2 there is a pretty gnarly snag sound coming out the rear end area. If you give it gas, it will engage the front end but the rear will not spin (the tires move but that is due to the front end engaging). Yellow fluid was in the snow right below the passenger rear half shaft where it connects to the case. Assuming the rear end is likely grenaded. Originally thought we just broke the passenger rear half shaft. Once it dies engage into 1 2 D or R it shifts into the next gear fine (tested up to 25mph to make sure it wasn't also a trani issue as the modulator had a small leak. Fluid in trani also at right levels)

Any thoughts or things to check?
Also the emergency brake light is staying on, but I believe it's iced over and likely will shutoff after a 24hr thaw

Curious, did you apply the parking brake during this adventure? could possibly be a stuck parking brake.
Remember don't eat that yellow snow!

Only once we got it out of the snow. Which might be the park light problem, but the back tires still aren't turning except from momentum. Going to look at it hopefully today. In the process of moving at moment so it got put on the back burner

Driveline brake or dual pull? The driveline brake will occasionally stick, not so much with the dual pull setup. Have someone carefully slide under the truck when you put it in gear and see if the rear drive shaft is turning. If it is then your diff might be toast. If it isn't turning then you might be looking at a transfer case.

Was the emergency pull break. Hoping to get looking at it this weekend

Definitely was the rear differential like initially thought awhile back. Also when tearing apart found a brake line that was about to go out from running on the inside frame. Swapping all the lines for braided lines and going to move them a bit.
Hardest part on removal was the top bolts on the brake system. A absolute PITA.

You might know, I know, but not everyone knows that the ratios must match, I’ve had trucks in the shop with mismatched Diffs....it’s not a winning combinatio.
Oh I have seen the same thing and you are correct! I am not selling it I was offering it as an alternative and would make sure he knows. Just trying to hook a brother up.

Beerthirty If you need a rear differential I have a heavy variant 3.08 I will part with.
Thanks for the offer, I'm actually looking at ARBs if we can cram it all in with the dt360. Got a bit busy at work so haven't had time to finish measuring and get a cad model up and running on it.
At this point predominantly getting a list together to make sure everything will work well together.
The DT360 we are shooting for around 550-600hp. So basing everything off 700hp as far as stress goes.

Nice you will love ARB lockers IMO they build a solid locker.
