HMMWV fuel pressure testing and IP timing

Q1:
I suspect a lift pump failure on my 6.2. Looking to tap in a test gauge at the pump and/or filter. What fittings/where do you tap in?

Q2:
IP advance is set at the marks no additional advance. Are there less expensive ways to check timing eg an inductive timing adapter etc?

Engine off. Relieve pressure from drain valve (by washer fluid tank) of fuel filter can. Use something to catch any furl. Hold valve open and have someone crank motor. If you get flow out of drain, then lift pump is working. You can remove wire from top of injection pump to prevent motor from starting.
Fuel pressure should be at least 3 psi.
Or remove linput line from injection pump and divert flow to measuring container. You should get 1 pint in 30 seconds of cranking.

Nice. I was thinking exactly along these lines of adding a mechanical gauge to the filter either at the pressure transducer location or the drain tap via a tee.

Water separator is opened while engine running....if the engine immediately dies, your lift pump is bad.
should fill a pickle jar in short order if working good.
you can remove the useless transducer on top of the fuel filter and add a pressure gauge.
the transducer is only used for the ste/ice garbage, also removing it makes it easier to change filters.
